Chapter 3: The Betrayal and the Beginning
Yu Chen approached the door to open it.
Then the teacher stopped him and asked, "Where are you going, Chen?"
"I'm going to my sister," Yu Chen replied. "There are zombies and screams everywhere."
"You can't go outside," the teacher said firmly. "There are zombies roaming around the college."
The teacher hesitated for a moment — but then stepped back and left him alone.
"He's weak. Just a load on us," Cheng Kung said with a wicked smile.
In his mind, he thought, He'll be the perfect meat shield… he'll attract all the zombies away from us.
"Cheng Kung, what are you saying? He'll die out there!" the teacher shouted.
"He's a burden," Cheng Kung said coldly. "He'll die anyway. Why waste food on him?"
"Yes, the teacher… Cheng Kung is right," his girlfriend added quickly.
"Yes, teacher," said all the students, agreeing.
"He's a waste. A load on us," repeated Cheng Kung's girlfriend.
"Yes, he's just a commoner," more students said, joining Cheng Kung's side.
"Shut up!" the teacher shouted in anger. "How can you all say this?"
"Teacher, don't worry. I will be safe," Yu Chen said calmly.
"But Cheng, there's a group of zombies outside!" the teacher warned again.
"Trash! Don't want to hear it. Why are you stopping him?" Cheng Kung snapped.
He wants me to lure the zombies away from this place, Yu Chen thought silently.
"Trash! How arrogant!" the students continued mocking and insulting him.
Yu Chen didn't care. He opened the door and walked outside.
As soon as Yu Chen stepped outside, Cheng Kung rushed and slammed the door shut with such force that a loud noise echoed through the corridor — a noise that attracted all the nearby zombies to that very spot.
That bastard! Yu Chen cursed in his mind and started running as fast as he could.
But the zombies had already noticed him.
They were running after him.
He turned into another classroom and slammed the door behind him.
But the zombies kept pounding on it, again and again — their strength shaking the whole room. The door wouldn't last much longer.
Yu Chen thought about his sister — How will I save her now?
But suddenly, behind him, the horrible sound of zombies growling echoed.
Yu Chen turned. His face went pale.
Two zombies were already inside the classroom.
He had no weapon. Nothing to defend himself.
How do I fight them? he panicked.
He searched quickly — and found a cleaning rod nearby. It was all he had.
He grabbed it and fought back with everything he had — but the two zombies were strong. He was out of energy.
He was going to die.
I thought I would graduate, live with my family… but now I'm going to die.
How will I save my sister? My mother?
No… it can't end like this!
With the last of his strength, Yu Chen stabbed the rod through one zombie's head, then struck down the second one.
He dropped to his knees, gasping, bleeding, almost unconscious.
Then suddenly…
A strange sound echoed inside his mind.
