"So you're telling me that even when you were drugged, you were still calling my name?" I couldn't help the smile that spread across my face. The thought of Kaelen rejecting Selene even in that state sent a warm flutter through my chest.
Kaelen leaned against the kitchen counter, his green eyes holding mine. "Apparently, I was quite insistent about it."
"I'm relieved, obviously," I admitted, taking another bite of chocolate cake. "But I'm still confused about something. If you knew she was lying, why did you seem to believe her pregnancy claim earlier? You had me worried sick."
"I wasn't convinced either way," he explained, reaching out to brush a crumb from my lip. His touch lingered longer than necessary. "I was exploring all possibilities. If there was even a slight chance she was telling the truth, I needed to investigate."
I set my fork down. "That makes sense. But next time, maybe fill me in on your thought process? My hormones can't handle the drama."
