"What did you just say?" I stared at Kaelen Thorne, unable to process his words.
His glowing green eyes remained locked on mine, unblinking. "I said I can smell my pup. You're carrying my child."
The room seemed to tilt sideways. I gripped the edges of the exam table, the paper crinkling beneath my fingers. My mouth opened and closed, but no words came out.
Lyra stepped between us, though her hands were visibly shaking. "Mr. Thorne, that's impossible. Seraphina selected an anonymous human donor. There must be some mistake."
"A mistake?" Kaelen's laugh was cold and bitter. "The mistake was thinking I wouldn't discover this scheme. What was your plan exactly, Dr. Daniels? To deliberately inseminate her with my sample and then blackmail me?"
Lyra paled. "What? No! That's absurd!"
I finally found my voice. "Lyra would never do that! This has to be some kind of mix-up."
