Chapter 41 - Learning to Parent a Wolf

The parking lot outside the community center was packed with cars when we arrived for our first parenting class. Kaelen's confession about the intruder still lingered in my mind, but strangely, his honesty about his mistake had strengthened something between us rather than broken it.

"Nervous?" Kaelen asked as he helped me out of his sleek black SUV, his hand warm and steady against my lower back.

"A little," I admitted, unconsciously touching the faded bruises at my neck. It had been four days since the attack, and the physical reminders were finally starting to fade. The emotional ones would take longer. "I've never been around this many shifters in one place."

His lips quirked up in that half-smile I was growing dangerously fond of. "Just stay close to me."

"Like I have a choice," I muttered, but there was no real bite to my words.
