The sun filtered through the curtains, dappling the bedroom with warm light as I stretched languidly beneath the covers. For the first time in weeks, I'd slept deeply without being haunted by fragmented memories or sinister shadows. My body felt lighter, unburdened after Kaelen had pulled me from my nightmare and we'd finally cleared the air between us.
My phone buzzed on the nightstand. I reached for it with a smile, already knowing who it would be.
"Good morning," I answered, unable to keep the warmth from my voice.
"Little star." Kaelen's deep voice rumbled through the speaker, sending pleasant shivers down my spine. "You sound well-rested."
"I am," I admitted, curling onto my side. "Thank you for last night. For finding me in the nightmare."
"I'll always find you, Seraphina." His tone was possessive yet tender. "How are you feeling this morning?"
I considered the question honestly. "Better. Lighter. Like a weight's been lifted now that everything's out in the open."
