The drive to Elder Eldrin's house took us deeper into the territory than I'd been before. We turned off the main road onto a winding path that disappeared into dense forest. Sunlight filtered through the canopy of ancient trees, casting dappled shadows across the windshield.
"Who exactly are we meeting?" I asked, my hands fidgeting nervously in my lap.
"Eldrin," Kaelen replied, his eyes fixed on the narrow dirt road. "He's the oldest living member of our pack. Over two hundred years old."
I choked on air. "Two hundred?"
"Shifters live longer than humans," he explained matter-of-factly. "Eldrin was born in a different time. He remembers the old ways, the ancient magics. If anyone can help us understand what happened to you, it's him."
