Chapter 41 - C41

Chris Weiss, age eighteen, is a powerful swordmaster. He has lived his entire life on Twin Swallow Island, guarding it from pirates. About a month ago, he left the island and set out to sea.

His motives? Unknown. His teacher? Also unknown.

He currently leads a ship crew named The Rescuers, supposedly dedicated to saving those who fall overboard during storms or accidents at sea. But their help doesn't come for free...

The East Blue is often called the weakest sea by pirates, but in the eyes of the Navy, it's a symbol of peace. People here live safely, untouched by pirate attacks—thanks entirely to the Navy's efforts.

So, when someone like Weiss appeared—a young man with the strength comparable to an elite Vice Admiral—the Navy couldn't afford to ignore him. They feared he might stir up some grand event in this peaceful sea.

That's why, the moment Garp parted ways with Weiss, he sent word to Navy Headquarters to investigate. Garp himself was also puzzled. He had sensed something oddly familiar about Weiss's sword.

A damned lion.

Later, Garp decided he must have been mistaken—probably just a coincidence since both he and Weiss used a double-edged swords and were master swordsmen. He tossed the thought aside.

The Navy's intelligence department did not disappoint. In a short time, they had gathered basic information on Weiss.

Endless (a Navy officer) reviewed the report. If Weiss had come from the Grand Line, his strength might not have raised any concern—aside from his age.

But in the East Blue...

"Let's just hope he doesn't do anything against justice."

Muttering this, Endless picked up a Den Den Mushi and dialed HQ.

Meanwhile, completely unaware of all this, Weiss was busy dealing with a rather ridiculous situation.

He had gone into a bar with Karina, where they ordered two glasses of red wine. Everything was peaceful—until a man in his twenties approached them, clearly smitten by Karina's beauty and tried to hit on her.

Karina ignored him, which only made the young man angry. He turned to Weiss and scoffed, "This your companion? Just a weakling. All looks, no substance."

Weiss thought he was about to experience one of those classic "thug hits on girl, cool guy draws sword to save her" moments. But things took a strange turn.

"I'm not with her. Don't say nonsense. Do as you like," Weiss replied casually, deciding to sit back and see how Karina handled it.

Karina shot him a glare but continued ignoring the guy.

"Oh beautiful lady, please accept my love. It was love at first sight!" the man said dramatically, pulling out a flower from who-knows-where and biting it between his teeth, thinking he looked charming.

"It's more like lust at first sight," Karina muttered. Having roamed the seas for years among pirates, she'd seen every kind of creep there was.

Annoyed, she looped her arm through Weiss's and said, "Hubby, don't be mad. Look, this guy's harassing me!"

Pfft!

Weiss spat out his wine in surprise, accidentally spraying the waiter across from him. The waiter blinked in confusion. Feeling the softness of Karina clinging to his arm, Weiss was completely dumbfounded.

Didn't I already remove myself from this situation?

The young man snarled and stormed up to them. "Kid, a woman like that is out of your league. Let go of her while you still can."

Weiss swirled his wineglass, wondering how best to make an impression.

Draw his sword? No, too violent. Bad aesthetics.

Insult him? No, too crude. Hurts the image.

The guy glared at Karina's arm wrapped around Weiss's and snapped, "Hey punk, take your hand off her!"

Weiss looked at him.

And then—

"Your eyes… they're toxic!"

The man suddenly clutched his chest and flew backward like he was hit by a cannonball, smashing through a table and landing flat on the floor, blood dripping from the corner of his mouth. He pointed at Weiss with trembling fingers.

"You... you monster!"

Then he collapsed, seemingly dead.

Weiss blinked, stunned.

Since when could my eyes release sword aura?!

Even if they could—why "toxic eyes"?

"He's been killed!"

"Look! That guy killed someone!"

The bar patrons, mostly pirates or gangsters, didn't seem particularly disturbed. For them, a death was just another story over drinks. Maybe even a reason to order another round.

Just then, a girl burst into the bar. Seeing the collapsed man on the floor, she ran to him and cried out:

"Brother! Who did this to you?! What am I going to do without you?!"

"Who could be so cruel? He's only in his twenties! He hasn't even gotten married yet!"

The twin-tailed girl sobbed dramatically over the young man, pounding on his chest. He coughed up more blood, staining his whole head red.

Weiss almost believed her—until he noticed her rubbing her eyes with ginger. Ah, fake tears.

"Are we getting scammed?" Karina muttered. She'd seen robbers, pirates, even backstabbers. But this? This was new.

It was... kind of amusing.

"Darling, your gaze is just too powerful," Karina cooed flirtatiously. "One look and he got poisoned~"

The girl clearly heard that. Her body trembled slightly. Then she looked around, realizing the whole bar was watching.

Noticing Karina's generous figure, she muttered to herself, "...So big."

"You killed my brother, didn't you?! You're murderers! My brother was such a kind soul—he helped old ladies cross the street! Gave candy to hungry kids! How could you be so heartless?!"

She wept even harder. But no one stepped in to support her. This wasn't like the village, where elderly folks would rally behind a sob story.

So she tried to drag others in.

"Come on, people! Are you really gonna let this slide?!"

A nearby pirate chuckled, "Hey, buddy, she's crying real hard. Maybe you should take responsibility and adopt her!"

"Yeah," another laughed, "A lone girl at sea—how could she survive without a man?"

"If you don't take her, we might step up and do the honors~"

"Little girl, wanna go sailing with your uncle?"

These people were pros at minding their own business—and teasing. Someone dying in a bar? Just another day.

Hack! Cough!

The "dead" man coughed again, spurting more blood like a fountain. Where was he even storing it?

"Sis... it's fine. I'm not dead... just a little injured..."

He tried to sit up, and his sister hurried to help.

"Brother! You're hurt so badly, how can you say it's nothing?! Thank goodness you're still alive. But this can't be forgiven!"

She then fixed her teary (and very calculating) eyes on Weiss, which now gleamed like coins.
