Chapter 2 - The Great Holy Grail War [1]

Normal POV

A young man around the age of eighteen could be seen walking down the hallway of the Clocktower.

He has short messy blond hair and sharp violet eyes.

He wears a pair of rectangular black glasses and is dressed in a sleek, black high-collared turtleneck under a dark suit and coat.

The man stopped when he turned around a corner colliding with a student who had dropped a stack of books.

"Ah my apologies mate didn't see ya there," the man said as he helped the fallen student who also had blond hair and dark blue eyes.

"Nah it's fine man, I should have paid better attention," the boy said picking up the books from the ground with the man assisting him although discreetly he would take a look at some of the notes inside.

"There ya go mate all set now," the man said with a grin as he handed the young boy the last book "oh geez you didn't have to do that," the boy said.

"Nah it was no problem lad...besides I wanted to actually ask you something," the man replied waving his hand.

"Alright well what is it?" the boy inquired.

"I am looking for the head of department of summoning's office, but this place is a bit too much like a bloody maze and I keep getting lost," the man asked with an exasperated tone.

"You mean Mister Roku's office? Yeah I can take you there since you helped me out" the boy offered.

"It's right this way!" the boy exclaimed pointing down the hall.

The man nodded as they both walked in silence "I am Oliver by the way, Oliver Constantine," he introduced.

"Oh uh my name's Flat Escardos," the boy awkwardly responded.

The silence returned with only the sound of their footsteps being the only sound heard.

"So if I may ask Mister Constantine-" Flat was interrupted by Oliver "just call me Oliver no need to use any formalities Flat besides I am only 18 not exactly old enough to have a mister in my name."

"Right Oliver then why do you need to see the head for the summoning department?"

Oliver shrugged "hell if I know lad usually the Clocktower and its members tend to avoid me due to certain reasons but today I woke up with a mail note asking for a summons."

They finally came to a stop near door with a sign that read Head Department Office of Summons "well here we are this is Mister Roku's place, I gotta go now Oliver I'll see you around!" Flat said turning with a smile.

"Wait!" Oliver called out making Flat pause the smile on his face fading "huh what is it?" he asked with the tilt of his head.

Oliver reached into the pockets of his coat "here it's my contact, consider it a onetime favor to cash in since you helped me out," he placed the card in Flat's breast pocket since his hands were full of books.

"Haha thanks Ollie," Flat laughed with a smile and left unknowingly calling Oliver by a nickname.

"Been a while since anyone's called me that, but I suppose I can let it slide just this once," Oliver muttered as he went inside the office.

"Ah I see you've finally arrived Mister Constantine," an old man dressed in a suit greeted in a classic gendo pose.

The room contained various shelves of tomes, journals, and jars of floating beast parts.

"Right let's just skip the foreplay and get to the point old man you asked for me so tell my what ya want from someone like me," Oliver said taking a seat on the couch while lightening a cigarette.

"I see very well then I can assume you are aware of the Holy Grail War in Fuyuk City yes?" Roku asked.

Oliver scoffed at those words exhaling a puff of smoke from his mouth "know about it? I am quite sure the last one was the end of it."

"Yes well I am afraid that information is false" the old man said in a grim tone "you see sometime far back during the Third Grail War during world war 2 the German army were planning on winning by using magecraft however they were deceived by the master with whom they formed an alliance, the greater grail was taken while in transit it's where abouts were unknown," he continued.

"So I take it ya want me to track it down, is that right?" Oliver guessed with a bored look.

"No it's reappeared a family of mages in Romania by the name of Yggdmillennia have claimed ownership of the greater grail," Roku pulled out a picture showing a man in a German millitary outfit "this here is Darnic Yggdmillennia the master that Germans allied with."

Oliver rose a brow at the photo "damn the bloke still looks this young? Something tells me he's probably using some sort of magecraft to be immortal or some shite like that," he then shuddered "the last time I had to deal with a fuckin 'immortal' the smell of bug juice lasted a whole two months on my favorite coat here."

"Yes well instead of binding himself with crest worms, Darnic fused with an infant soul," Roku informed with a downcast expression.

"Ahh well that's just great another dumbass using children," Oliver muttered pinching the bridge of his nose with visible disgust while tossing his finished-up cigarette into an ash tray "so why haven't you sent the enforcers after them then?"

Roku laughed "do you think we did not? We sent a total of 50 elite enforcers and only 1 of them returned back the rest were all slaughtered by a servant," he said turning to look at Oliver in the eye.

"Oof poor bastards," Oliver said with a wince.

"Yes, it's clear to us now that Yggdmillennia that they have at least one servant summoned already...their message was clear to us they've officially disconnected themselves from the association and have formed the faction of Black while ours is the faction of Red," Roku explained.

"Sigh right let me guess you bastards want me to be a master? Well I hate to break it to ya but I am not interested almost anyone whose participated in the grail wars have all but died," Oliver dismissed.

Roku's eyes glinted, his aged hands steepled in front of his face "yes and most of them died because they were either fools chasing power, or tools wielded by others but you, Mister Constantine are neither."

Oliver leaned back on the couch, arms stretched across the backrest head tilted as he narrowed his eyes "flattery ain't gonna work on me, old man I know what I am."

"A survivor," Roku replied without missing a beat "and that's exactly why we want you you're unpredictable, independent, and cunning when you want to be after all you are the man whose tricked many entities such as the fairies, daemons, and hell the fact that you've also manipulated a dead apostle ancestor into killing itself is nothing short of extraordinary

Oliver stared, his jaw tightening slightly as the silence grew thick "alright old man let's say I did decide to join, what are you willing to give me?" he asked.

"A onetime favor of any kind from the Clocktower itself," Roku instantly offered causing Oliver to let out a whistle "damn you guys are really desperate to have me? Alright fine I'll be a master but I also want a geiss contract and at least one of your personal tomes from your shelf up there figured I'd ask for something more since I am risk of losing my life," he added with a cheeky grin.

Reluctantly Roku glanced at the shelf and then nodded after a few seconds "very well you can pick one."

"Congratulations old man you've just made quite the deal," Oliver said placing out a blank Geiss on Roku's desk and then walked over to a shelf grabbing a rather bulky sized tome.

-end of prologue-

As you can probably tell this MC is directly inspired by John Constantine from DC except for the fact that he's straight and doesn't have any super weird kinks.
