Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Compounding

As he ran and ran, he finally came to a realization. "I'm such a coward. Don't I have a skill? Why not use it"

Feeling a sudden surge of confidence, he stopped midway and turned around. There, not far behind, the blue slime was still hopping toward him like a cute baby kangaroo.

"So slow" he uttered with a blank look on his face.

He had already moved about twenty steps away in just a second, while the slime had only taken one small hop.

"You will die for this, you slime" he said with cold eyes.

The slime tilted its jelly body, confused by his words.

"Take this. Fireball in Explosion," he uttered in a whisper.

"Fireball!" he shouted.

He raised his hand, summoning all the mana in his puny body. His eyes glowed, probably from the effort and not from any real power.

He hurled the spell as if it were a powerful nuke. Instead, a tiny ember the size of a candle flame floated out.

Then, all of a sudden, it popped in mid-air like a wet fart.

Pffft

But it hit the slime, so it was still a success. Kinda, successful.

Sizzle

The slime wobbled in place, it was now slightly warmer. Its expression hadn't changed. If anything, it looked more relaxed.

"Did it just enjoy that" he whispered, completely speechless.

In his head, he understood what kind of slime this was. It could be considered a low-level beast.

Blue slimes were known for being docile, curious, and now emotionally confused after being threatened by what looked like a frantic squirrel with magic.

[You have used Fireball for the first time.]

[Compounding initialized. Future uses will permanently increase its power by +1% per cast.]

His eyes suddenly lit up at the notification. "Oh yeah? I almost forgot about you. So it gets stronger every time I use it, huh"

A smirk formed on his face, as if he were some kind of legendary sage in that moment.

"Then let's try again" he puffed out his chest, raised his trembling hand, and channeled his mana once more.

"FIREBALL IN EXPLOSION V2!"

Another ember floated out. This time, it was slightly bigger, maybe the size of two candle flames stuck together.

It made it halfway before fizzling out with a soft pop. It was so pathetic and useless, yet somehow, it still hit the slime again.

Pffft

The slime jiggled again. If it had vocal cords, it might have sighed in contentment.

"Did I just invent a slime massage technique" he muttered.

But he didn't stop. He was determined to make this slime suffer from his wrath.

[You have used Fireball for the 2nd time]

[Compounding initialized +1% per cast.]

"Fireball in Explosion V3. Ultimate mini burst mode" he shouted.

Even though the skill was simply called fireball, he kept adding more dramatic words.

With that, he threw another one. This time, it actually sparkled before popping.

Pffft Sssssss!

The slime just gave a happy wiggle, clearly enjoying it, "It's enjoying this too much" he said, completely defeated.

Then came the system notification once more.

[You have used Fireball for the 3rd time]

[Compounding initialized +1% per cast.]

After casting fireball for the third time, a sharp pang of exhaustion hit him like a slap to the soul.

His body swayed, and the world spun as a system prompt blinked in front of his eyes.

[Mana Depleted]

His legs gave out beneath him, and he collapsed to his knees, panting heavily as cold sweat ran down his back.

It felt like someone had pulled the plug on his energy, leaving him hollow and lightheaded.

Even lifting a finger felt like lifting a boulder. As he lay there, with his back facing down in the dirt, the once-terrifying slime curiously bounced over and nudged his leg.

"I only cast it three times. How am I already dying" he groaned.

Jeff felt the slime riding on his leg. It was perfectly harmless. In fact, it was literally not harmful at all.

He felt a bit of sadness stir inside him, so he decided not to kill the slime as it wiggled on his chest in a very cute manner.

This time, he noticed he could finally lift his hand and gently pet the slime, which happily pressed into his touch and enjoyed his caress.

[Blue Slime was tamed]

[Do you want to keep it as your tamed beast?]

[Opo or Hindi] - (TL: Yes or No)

"What..." his face showed a shocked expression.

Why was this beast tamed? Did it actually enjoy being tortured? But deep down, the thought of having a companion in this place for three weeks made him feel happy.

With that, he clicked yes, and just like that, he finally tamed the beast.

[What would you like to name this beast]

"Your name will be called Blue, little bastard" he said with a smile.

[Affirmative. Naming completed]

[You can now view Blue Little Bastard's status]

"What? System, are you deaf or something? I meant Blue. Why did you add the curse words" he shouted.

But the system did not respond, making him even angrier since the perfect name he had in mind was now completely ruined.

"Hays, just show me Little Blue's status" he said with a sigh.

...

"Wow, little fella, you actually have a good set of skills," Jeff said, praising him.

The little bastard trembled happily, enjoying the praise from his master. Finally energized, Jeff stood up with the little bastard perched on his shoulder.

He then glanced at his mana and the fireball skill.

...

Fire Ball

Description: Fire ball in explosion (System: Since you like explosion there you have it)

Compounded: +3% Damage

Mana Cost: 10

[Current Mana: 16/32.10]

Seeing his low mana, he couldn't help but wonder how he could increase its base damage and spam his skill more effectively.

Looking at the skill details, he realized that if he did the math and compounded the damage with his base magical power.

He calculated something like 14.32, which was worth something, he guessed. So this time, he decided to find a hiding place and spam his skill repeatedly, to compound the damage.
