# Chapter 74 – The Last Betrayal
*Gerald's POV*
The moon hung low in the sky when I found her. Nanisa stood in the old garden where we used to meet. Her back was to me, but I could see her shoulders shaking. She knew I was coming.
"You came," she whispered without turning around.
"I had to." My voice sounded strange to my own ears. Cold. Distant. Like it belonged to someone else.
She turned then. Her face was wet with tears. The woman I once loved looked broken. Her eyes were red and swollen. Her hair hung loose around her shoulders. She looked nothing like the powerful sorceress everyone feared.
"Gerald, please," she said, stepping toward me. "We can fix this. We can go away together. Far from here. Far from all of this madness."
I took a step back. "It's too late, Nanisa."
"No." She shook her head hard. "It's not too late. It's never too late. I love you. I've always loved you."
