Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

 VANESSA'S POV

"Dinner is ready, my love" I said romantically, placing the steaming dinner plate in front of Alexander, my husband and the soon to be Alpha. Just tomorrow he will be the Alpha and I will be the Luna. I was so excited and happy I met him.

Unlike usual, he took his seat calmly. I was expecting a warm smile or a gentle thank you from him which usually comes with a peak on the cheek or a soft kiss. Instead, his piercing gaze froze me making me feel something was wrong somewhere.

" What's wrong, my love?" I asked him with concern etched on my face as I sought for a reply, this isn't the man I have known for years, he is always a happy guy. I knew something was wrong with him but couldn't place my hand at what was wrong.

He pushed back from the table, his chair scraping against the floor while he stood up from the seat.

"Nothing's wrong, Vanessa," he spat, dipping his hand in his pocket while I stared at his face with worries, his voice dripping with venom and I knew he wasn't fine, this was the first time for a very long time he called me that name"VANESSA"

"Everything's perfectly right." He smiled at me but I didn't trust it .

Confusion swirled within me as he snatched a paper from his pocket and flung it at me, at first I took my gaze at him and then to the piece of sheet in my front.

Was it a letter related to the mate celebration tomorrow? Or he wanted to surprise me?

I quickly picked the paper with excitement as I stared at those papers, scamming my eyes through the write up and suddenly I paused.

My glance couldn't move, my eyeballs stood at that point.

Divorce? How? Why? No! This isn't happening.

It's definitely not happening!

"Honey? Say something? What is all this?" I demand a response from him. I want to believe it was a prank, dream or something else. Whatever else it should be but definitely not the truth!

Yet he said nothing!

"This can't be," I whispered, my heart shattering into a million pieces. Proceedings through it or was he pranking me.

Alexander's expression twisted in disgust as I raised my head up to look at his face for answers.

"You never understood, did you?" he sneered, walking closer to where I stood. His expression got the best of me. What changed?

"I never loved you, Vanessa. I never will." He added. My mind reeled as I felt a huge sword was piercing through my heart.

I am not going to believe his words, tears have already circulated in my eyes making me squat bitterly.

"But...but why?" I stuttered holding the tears back from failing but I couldn't as it fell to the paper.

Alexander's eyes flashed with anger.

"My father's wish, that's why," he snarled. "He wanted an alliance with your family, and I complied. But now he's gone, and I'm free to do what I want." He yelled at me, taking his step back.

The truth hit me like a tidal wave yet causing me not to believe his words.

He accepted me because of his father's wish? Or was it because he loved me?

Not because he loved me?

The pain seared through my chest and it was unbearable for me.

"You used me," I whispered, tears streaming down my face.

Alexander's face hardened.

"You're an omega, Vanessa. Weak, submissive, and useless to me. I need a strong mate, one who can stand by my side as Alpha." His words hit me off my balance.

His words cutting me deep, I wished I could scream he should stop but I couldn't as if I was held down to speak.

I thought our love was real. I thought he was in love with me as for all these years he never complained I was an omega which I know I am not. The truth was that I couldn't shift even as hard as I tried.

I thought he cherished me even without me transforming. I remembered his words of me not worrying myself about it why now is he doing all this.

I wished I knew he never loved, I wished I knew it was all a lie.

Tomorrow was supposed to be the day he'd claim me as his Luna.

Now, I was nothing.

"Get out," he growled, his voice low and menacing.

I stood frozen, divorce papers still clutched in my shaking hands.

And then, he said it:

"You're not even worthy of being my mate...because you're not fully werewolf, I think an Omega is far better from whom you " he snarled.

My heart stopped.

What did he mean?

Was I...something else? How? Could it be my reason for inability to transform?

Alexander's eyes seemed to gleam with a sinister secret.

I stood frozen, divorce papers still clutched in my shaking hand, the words blurring together as tears streamed down my face.

"Alexander, please," I begged, my voice cracking with desperation. "We can work through this. Whatever's bothering you, we can fix it. We've been together for five years, built a life, a future. Don't throw it all away."

Alexander's expression hardened, his eyes cold and unyielding.

"There's nothing to fix, Vanessa," he spat, his voice dripping with venom. "I never loved you. You were just a means to an end, a pawn in my father's game. And now that he's gone, I'm free to do what I want." He yelled at me.

I felt a pang of desperation, my heart racing with fear, his rejection and divorce now where do I go from here.

"But what about our life together? Our plans? Our dreams?" I asked him, with the hope to bring back his memories.

Alexander sneered, his lips curling.

"Plans? You mean the plans my father made for us? No, Vanessa. I'm done playing with a puppet. I'm done pretending to love you."

I took a step forward, pleading, my hands grasping for him.

"Alexander, don't do this. We can work through this. We can find a way to make it work."

He cut me off, his voice cold and detached.

"Sign the papers, Vanessa."

I hesitated, my hand trembling as he forced the pen into it.

"Alexander, please—"

He gripped my hand, his fingers tightening.

"Sign."

Tears blurred my vision as I scribbled my signature, the sound of the pen scratching the paper feeling like a death sentence.

Just then, the door swung open, and Patricia, Alexander's mother, stood in the doorway.

I was happy she walked in, I know she will stand by my side.

Her eyes widened as she took in the scene, her expression shifting from concern to contempt.

"Alexander, what's going on here?" she asked, her voice icy.

"Mother, Vanessa and I are getting a divorce," Alexander said, his voice flat.

Patricia's gaze turned to me, her eyes flashing with disdain.

"Wolfless," she spat, her voice venomous. "You're still as weak as ever. You never had what it takes to be an Alpha's mate." She asked me, making me feel all surprised.

My heart stuttered, shock and hurt washing over me.

Patricia had always been kind to me, supportive and loving. Why this sudden change?

"Mother, stop," Alexander warned, his voice low.

But Patricia continued, her words cutting deep.

"You're not worthy of our family's legacy. You never were. You're just a..."

Patricia's words trailed off as Alexander's eyes flashed a warning, but I knew.

I knew something was terribly wrong.

"Tell me," I demanded, my voice shaking. "What do you mean?"

Patricia's smile sent chills down my spine.

"Ask your father, dear," she said, her voice dripping with malice. "Ask him what you really are."

And with that, she turned and left, leaving me reeling.

Alexander's parting words cut deep

"You'll never be mine."

I stood there, frozen, the divorce papers still clutched in my hand, my heart shattered, how come the sudden change in him?

I need to do something before tomorrow, we mustn't have a divorce. No! I can't take it.
