Chapter 10 - CHAPTER 9: CONTRAST WORLD

THREE YEARS LATER... NOAH'S P.O.V

"Nah. Toby. Your obsession is driving me insane."

He said rounding the University dramatically for the tenth time that day... Ugh, imagine the exhaustion they suffered after hours day of walking around the university. In reality this is to be the second time moving to third round around the university just for an off chance they spot a guy. His best friend Toby has been obsessed with a guy who was their senior in their previous high school and is said to have come to this particular university.

"Thank you for coming to Moon University with me. I know you could have gone anywhere. Thank you for being a good friend, you even follow me through my walk to my destiny."

"Yeah. Yeah. Yeah Toby, I came for the front seat to watch your drama... besides you my friend are our packs gullible omega whom I can stand. As future Duecalion as well as your friend I cannot let you wonder this world alone. Especially if you have a chance of finding your fated. Now hurry up, we are in different orientation halls."

Even way before when Toby presented as an omega, they were inseparable best friends, they did everything together. One day when they got the results of their status at the seldom age of thirteen, due to his father's impatience. These tests are supposed to be done by the age of sixteen or seventeen to determine where in the hierarchy one is to fall. But his father wanted to know where his youngest son would fall in society. His father designed a piece of technology that gave a prediction based on genes and probability to determine their nature.

Knowing later could have spared his childhood... His father's design and the constant advancements in technology could have altered the course of their friendship. But luckily, they'd made a pact: whatever they learned about their true nature wouldn't affect their bond. So, when Toby eventually found out about his status, it didn't come as a major shock or a threat to their relationship.

As the future alpha of the Blue Lunar Pack, He made it his mission to protect his small, delicate, and admittedly gullible best friend especially in the mundane setting of Moon University, which sat awkwardly on mutual territory.

Now, "mutual territory" basically meant the land wasn't claimed and couldn't be—neutral ground. The only real reason they ended up here. Toby had been talking to some guy he met online. Well, that's not technically the whole truth. Lucas was apparently their senior here studying medicine and presumably in his third or fourth year.

Noah didn't care much beyond supporting his best friend. Honestly, he'd never even met the guy. After high school, he'd just assumed the poor sucker was human. And his best friend? Clearly head-over-heels whether it was love, lust, or a fleeting crush. Noah couldn't decide.

Still, he couldn't help but feel pity for Lucas if he was human. That relationship could only end awkwardly. Humans could never fully satisfy an omega werewolf, especially during the intense months of their heat cycles. But even with that knowledge, Noah just couldn't bring himself to burst Toby's bubble. Laughing the two spoke about nothing and everything before they had to split up.

Noah, of course, never lacked confidence especially in the looks department. His easygoing charm earned him a nomination to compete in the Moon of 2019 contest. It was just a fun, traditional competition where students from various universities represented their faculties, battling it out for school pride and bragging rights. He had been nominated to represent the Engineering faculty alongside Air. He laughed when he heard her name announced, even as the crowd roared in approval.

Air. She's gorgeous. Funny. And if he were being honest with himself, he still finds her attractive. Well, sort of. They'd had a "thing" two years ago, something that fizzled out in betrayal when she cheated on him with one of his friends. That mess ended whatever they were trying to be. Still, he was a red-blooded male, and Air was undeniably stunning. Truthfully, a lot of women hung on him. He found it flattering and yes, many of them were incredibly attractive. Air, for her part, had practically rejoined his fan club, clinging to him like a second skin. He suspected she might be looking for a one-night thing, maybe a fling to settle old scores or reignite what was once there. And maybe... he didn't mind the idea. If she was willing, why not? It would make things easier. But what wouldn't be easy is making it clear that whatever happened between them had to come with no strings attached.

. Toby

He laughed at the text, even though it came with a tired and crying emoji. The hype around him the girls flocking, the nonstop attention had shifted from flattering to just plain overwhelming. So, when he got the invite to disappear from the cult of the competition, he agreed without a second thought. The guys? They envied his natural charm and effortless charisma. And he could see it in some more than others.

Still, whenever he got a break or any scrap of free time, he chose to spend it with his best friend, Toby. The one person who saw him for more than just the looks or his rep. Today is no different. The attention was suffocating, so he ducked out, taking a shortcut that cut between buildings to avoid the crowds. He headed toward the science faculty, which was conveniently close to the medical faculty Toby's current hunt. While walking, he blindly texted:

No frills, no emojis. Toby would know what it meant. That dammed omega preferred being on the outside, looking in on his crush ever since high school. He stared at Lucas with heart shaped eyes as if that is possible, he barely got time to take care of himself. Finally, when Lucas graduated, he agreed to start off as online friends since Toby was barely legal but eventually over the years they began dating or just excessively chatting. The background to their story is still shaky Noah isn't even sure if Lucas remembered the sweet, quiet guy from back then. But Toby? Toby is convinced. There is doubt in his heart: Lucas is his fated mate, human or not. Watching this love story unfold like a slow-motion train smash is going to be fascinating. Brave heart and blind hope.

[The scent. Find it.]
