Chapter 7 - set

The black man looked disdainfully at the monster and said, "Is this really the great challenge? Look at it, it's just a deformed, eyeless creature. It's no big challenge." The monster opened its huge mouth, and a massive amount of fog began to pour out. Within seconds, the entire room was filled with fog, and visibility became blurred for everyone.

The boy in the winter hat started walking in the fog, shouting and searching for the others. He kept walking through the fog, tension filling his heart. Then suddenly, he felt something touch his head. He froze in terror as expressions of horror seized his face. The hand slowly crawled towards his face. Out of the corner of his eye, he glimpsed long, pale, veiny fingers being slowly placed on his face. In that instant, Jesse heard a strange sound from behind him. Jesse, the boy, and the black man were close to each other, so it wasn't difficult for them to regroup.

Jesse pointed his weapon towards the source of the sound. His heart pounded with tension as he stared into the fog, ready for any potential danger. After several moments, he felt something strange under his feet. He couldn't see clearly due to the fog, so he lowered his hand to the ground in front of his feet. He touched a strange substance whose nature he couldn't identify. He pulled his hand from the ground and brought it closer to his eyes to see it clearly. He was surprised to find that the substance was blood, which made him warn the others and remind them not to let their guard down. The black man moved towards Jesse, spotting a strange darkness through the fog behind Jesse. He quickly aimed his pistol and fired, followed by a deafening scream echoing through the area. Jesse quickly turned around to find the monster fleeing and disappearing into the thick fog, leaving behind a large pool of green blood.

Jesse, with fear and shock on his face, said, "What was that? I almost died." The black man replied, "You're welcome." Jesse took a deep breath, trying to calm himself, but he caught sight of a strange green hue in the fog. He knelt down and focused on the green spot, saying in a slightly raised voice, "Thank you, my friend. Because of your shot, this thing dropped a lot of its blood. Now we can track it through it. It will be a bit difficult because of the fog, but that won't be a big problem. Come on, follow me, all of you. We need to kill it as soon as possible."

Jesse began tracking the blood, with the boy and the black man behind him. Jesse continued to follow the monster's copious blood on the ground for several minutes until he noticed a dark shape in the fog. He calmly raised his weapon and fired. A loud scream echoed through the area. Jesse rejoiced at hitting the monster, but his joyful expression vanished when he noticed the shadow approaching him rapidly. He fired several more shots, but it still approached without slowing down even slightly. His heartbeats intensified with every moment the monster approached him, and expressions of fear dominated his face. Suddenly, the monster appeared before him, in a fit of extreme rage. It raised its arm, ready to deliver a fatal blow to Jesse, but in a matter of seconds, before it could do anything, a gunshot was heard, accompanied by its collapse to the ground, and it began screaming hysterically from the intense pain.

Jesse looked at the fallen monster with expressions of shock and terror, only to find the black man in front of him, saying, "Don't worry, we're done with it." The monster continued to scream hysterically. The black man looked at it with anger and annoyance, aimed his pistol at the monster's head, and pulled the trigger, only to discover the pistol was empty. He looked at the pistol, threw it away, and turned his gaze towards the monster, saying, "Stop screaming like a b****!" He clenched his fist and delivered a blow to the monster, which made its screams intensify even more.

The black man bent down and began delivering a series of punches to the monster, blow after blow. Blood splattered everywhere. The monster's green blood mixed with the black man's blood, forming a brownish-black color. Jesse watched all of this silently, with expressions of astonishment and bewilderment.

The black man stopped hitting it and fell to the ground from exhaustion. Jesse looked at the monster to find its head completely crushed. Its teeth were scattered everywhere, with clear signs of punches on its face. Its face was covered in the man's red blood and its own green blood. The fog gradually began to disappear, and with each passing moment, the room's features became clearer. Jesse found the headless body of the boy in the winter hat lying on the ground. His bones were visible, with many parts of his body missing. Jesse looked at the body with a face full of sadness and pity. He took off his scarf and covered the body out of respect. The boy followed him and began looking at the body with surprise. He looked at it for a short time, then shifted his gaze towards the girl who was sitting on the ground in front of one of the doors, her feet tucked between her hands. Her eyes held expressions of terror and dread, and she hadn't uttered a word since the fog disappeared.

Elsewhere, the voice owner was sitting in a spacious wooden room of a red color with a metal door and several screens showing the room where the challenge was held. The voice owner watched in silence and concentration until he heard the sound of a door opening, and then sunlight spread throughout the room. A woman with pink hair and eyes of the same color entered, wearing a gray outfit and a purple scarf. Immediately after entering, she said to him, "Did you find any survivors?"

The voice owner replied in a calm tone, "Yes, I found five, but now there are four. This is good; I didn't expect that many to remain."

The girl's expression changed to annoyance, and she replied angrily, "Seriously! Why do you do this every time you get leadership? Why do you conduct these ridiculous tests? We need every living human in this area. Human lives are not a game."

The voice owner looked at her from behind the darkness. It took him some time to get up, and he calmly began to speak, "Mira, we have repeated this discussion too much already, and you still don't understand. I told you that in the current situation, we only need useful people, people who will benefit us. Besides, bringing any person alive is just foolishness and letting emotions control your decisions. How can I let a useless person consume resources that a more useful person could use instead? These humans you want to keep alive and whom you constantly bring are just a waste of resources. All they will do is eat and sleep, and they will be of no use to anyone. They are even worse than animals; at least I can use animals for their meat or drink their milk."

The girl looked at him with a look of hatred and turned towards the door to leave, but before she exited, she said to him, "You resemble the Katurani people, do you know that? That's why I hate you."

Jesse and the boy were lying on the ground, while the black man was checking the doors, looking for any exit. Jesse told him, "Stop, man, all those doors just lead to the rooms we were in. Don't tire yourself." The black man sat down in front of one of the doors, annoyance dominating him. The place remained quiet for a while, until the room began to shake and a strange sound was heard from above. Everyone quickly got up and began looking towards the ceiling. Then (sound of breaking) the ceiling collapsed above them, and the girl who had been talking to the voice owner emerged from it. She descended to the ground smoothly, leaving behind some of the destroyed ceiling debris. Her hand was in the shape of a massive, spiraling drill, covered in veins. The shape of the drill began to shrink and change, returning to a normal hand. The girl's face was filled with anger.

"Marcus, you son of a b****! How could he build a place to kill people under a kitchen?" Everyone looked at her with looks of worry and confusion and aimed their pistols at her. The girl began to calm them down and told them she was not the enemy, but had come to help them. She began to speak, saying, "My name is Mira Dawson. I know your first impression of me is bad, but I am not the cause of all this; it's someone else."

Jesse interrupted her with unclear expressions of confusion and annoyance, saying, "Listen, I'm not interested in any of this. All I want is to get out of this place."

Mira's face showed confidence, and she said in a voice full of conviction, "Why would you want to leave? Join our group. There are many humans like you, where instead of going alone to search for resources like food and drink, you can go in groups, and this will help increase the survival rate."

Jesse's expression turned serious, and he remained silent for a while, recalling memories from his past. After a period of silence dominated the place, he replied to her with a refusal. Mira replied to him with a confused and shocked expression, "Why not? You can..."

Jesse calmly interrupted her, saying, "Why do you only mention the positive side of joining a large group of people? I've joined some of them, and there's always the spread of diseases with poor medical aid, or they suffer from famines due to lack of food, and other problems I won't go into. I'm sorry, but I refuse to join."
