Chapter 233 – Prophecy
"Edward Weevil!"
Ace's eyes widened slightly when he heard the name.
When Shark Star first mentioned a thief, Ace had considered countless possibilities—the World Government, the Revolutionary Army, even Shanks's crew—but this?
He never expected him.
The man who claimed to be Whitebeard's son.
The half-witted brute known as Edward Weevil.
---
"What's wrong, Brother Ace? You know that name?" Jinbe asked curiously, noticing Ace's startled expression.
"Yeah… I've heard of him." Ace nodded slowly, rubbing his chin. "If the Edward Weevil you're talking about is the same one I know, then it's no wonder you were injured, Jinbe. That guy's a monster."
He leaned back slightly, his tone darkening.
"You remember the attack on the Marine training ship led by former Admiral Z—Zefa—several years ago, right?"
"Of course." Jinbe's face grew serious. "That ship carried Marine cadets. It was ambushed and nearly everyone was killed. The incident shocked the world—but the World Government never revealed who the culprit was. Don't tell me…" Jinbe's eyes widened. "It was him?"
Ace nodded grimly. "That's right. It was Weevil. He once fought Zefa and was defeated, but begged for mercy when he lost. Zefa, being the kind of man he was, spared him. But Weevil later came back and ambushed Zefa's ship—cut off his arm, slaughtered nearly all the cadets… only two survived."
The hall fell silent.
"More importantly," Ace continued, "that same Weevil claims to be Uncle Whitebeard's son. Whether that's true or not… I have my doubts. Still, when I return, I'll need to ask Pops directly."
---
"What?!"
Neptune, Shark Star, and Jinbe all exclaimed in unison.
"Whitebeard… has a son?" Neptune muttered in disbelief. "How have I never heard of this? He's been a friend of mine for decades!"
Ace could almost hear Marco laughing if he were here. "Relax, old man," he thought. "You're not the only one who didn't know."
Jinbe clenched his fist with sudden realization. "No wonder he looks like Pops! The beard, the power—it all makes sense now!"
"Hey, hey," Ace said irritably, waving a hand. "I told you, it's only self-proclaimed! Don't go spreading rumors. If Pops hears you talking like that, he'll smack you through the floor!"
Even as he said it, Ace wasn't completely sure himself.
In the original history he remembered, Whitebeard's death had allowed Weevil and his mother, Miss Bakkin, to rampage across the seas in his name.
But now—while Whitebeard still lived—neither of them dared to act openly.
Still… there was no denying Weevil's raw power.
To maim a former Marine Admiral like Zefa, and to injure Jinbe underwater—he wasn't just talk.
---
Jinbe coughed awkwardly. "Ahem… Forget what I said, Brother Ace."
He quickly regained his composure. "But setting aside who he really is—what was he after, coming to Fish-Man Island and stealing the Poneglyph from the Sea Forest?"
Ace wasn't surprised Jinbe had guessed it was the Poneglyph—he'd already come to the same conclusion.
What confused him was why.
"What's a brute like Weevil want with an ancient stone?" Ace thought, frowning. "He doesn't seem like the type to care about history or secrets."
Jinbe was the same way. He'd never shown much interest in the ancient stones, even giving one to Big Mom in the past to ensure Fish-Man Island's protection.
Ace sighed. "If I can't figure it out now, I'll just wait. Whatever he's planning, it'll show itself soon enough."
He turned to the tall mermaid sitting quietly nearby. "You must be Madam Shyarly, the prophet of Fish-Man Island. It's an honor to meet you. I've heard your predictions never miss. Would you mind giving me a reading?"
---
Shyarly set down her long pipe and gave a small nod. "Of course, Lord Entei."
She lifted the massive crystal ball before her, the interior swirling with faint blue light. "Please, step closer."
Ace approached, curiosity glinting in his amber eyes.
Shyarly placed both hands on the crystal sphere, her blue gaze fixed within its depths.
For a long moment, the hall was silent.
Then—her expression suddenly changed.
Her calm features twisted in horror, her body trembling violently.
"Ah—!!"
With a scream, Shyarly flung the crystal ball from her hands. It shattered against the coral floor, scattering shards that shimmered like sea glass.
"Madam Shyarly! What's wrong?!" Neptune rushed forward. "What did you see?"
Jinbe stepped closer as well, alarmed. "Why are you trembling?"
Shyarly stared at Ace as though she'd seen a ghost. Her blue eyes were wide with pure terror.
Ace gave her a calm, almost teasing smile. "What is it? Did you see something about me that frightened you that much?"
Her lips quivered. When she finally spoke, her voice was a whisper of dread.
"Black flames… devouring the Red Line…"
She trembled violently. "I saw black fire rising from your body—flames that consume everything, even the sun itself…"
Her gaze met his, and her voice fell to a fearful murmur.
"You… you will take away the light of the entire world."
