Chapter 24 - A world of cultivation, damn it

I go straight to the shop and skills section.

[Skills.

[Accelerated Regeneration: 8000 SP]

[Pain Immunity: 10000 SP]

[Fear Amplification: 6500 SP]

[Lockpicking: 2800 SP]

[Extreme Resistance: 7200 SP]

[Aura Forging: 5000 SP]

]

There are too many skills, but with my humble 3000 SP, I can't buy practically anything. Besides, I don't know if there's another way to get SP, so I have to think of a good skill I can afford.

I start looking for skills that are under 3000 points. As I search, my eyes fix on a very interesting skill.

[Weak Point: You are able to see the spot where it would be easiest to inflict injury if struck.

3000 SP

[BUY] ]

It's a good skill, though the real problem is that it's a very ambiguous skill. If I use the skill and it shows me the head, I can only think, "Thanks a lot for the clarification, I was planning to stupidly hit one of the claws of the creature I'm about to face."

On the other hand, if it shows a point in a fight where it would be easier for me to attack, that would be much better.

[-3000 SP]

I buy it. I know this is a bit of a stupid decision since I don't know how this skill works completely and I have few points, but I trust that the system wouldn't give me any useless skill.

Well, now I think the best thing would be to go do some mission. I head straight for random missions since, although they seem to give difficult missions even to the point that last time I ended up very beaten up i know they won't be completely impossible and they seem to give a lot of points, so the missions I'll constantly do will be random missions.

Upon selecting the option, everything turns black.

I opened my eyes. Two twin moons hung in a sky that was not the same as my world's. The air was thick, heavy, laden with a strange smell.

"Is this system not even going to give me a countdown before taking me to another world?"

I sat up with difficulty, noticing the rough, torn clothes I was wearing. It seems I arrived in this world in my own body and with the clothes I had on. At least I wasn't wearing any important items, or else I'd have to spend a lot of money just buying clothes every time I return from a mission.

[Mission: Join a well-reputed sect and survive a full half year.

Reward: 5000 SP, 7 stat points, [Earring of Danger], [???] ]

The rewards are too good. There's even another, surprise item? Is the system turning into a game that comes with a surprise included? I hope I don't become a gambler because of this.

Now, what truly bothers me is that the mission says I have to join a sect and stay in this world for half a year. 6 months in this world I don't know how good or bad that is, but what really matters is the part about joining a sect.

Is this a damn cultivation world? These novels are only good to read, but in reality, for someone "normal" like me, it's fucking dangerous. If I look at someone the wrong way, I could die, and I don't even know if I'm stronger than the weakest cultivator in this world.

As I got to my feet, I looked around and noticed I was in a forest. Having a rough idea of what kind of world I'm in, I try to activate my aura. Although it's difficult at first, I see a crimson energy forming in my hand. Even though the world changes, it seems I can still use aura as long as there is some kind of energy in the air. Should I give a name to this energy that exists in the world?

"Stop thinking stupid things, Will."

I started walking steadily. As I advanced, I did so slowly, hiding behind trees. After doing this a few times, I notice a kind of wolf looking in my direction.

Is it looking at me? It shouldn't be able to do that. Even though it's not night, my steps shouldn't be felt, but the gaze it's directing at me and that growl tell me it's best to step out and face it directly.

My hand instinctively summoned the gauntlets the system gave me. The wolf's green fire eyes were fixed on me. Acidic drool dripped from its maw, burning holes in the stone at its feet.

Great, it has acid drool.

The beast charged.

My muscles reacted on instinct. I dodged to the side with a speed I didn't even know I had. The wolf shot past like a living battering ram, crashing into the tree where I had been with an impact I could feel in my bones.

I lunged forward and while repeatedly punching the wolf, I notice a large red thread. Following it, I realize this thread is directed right at its teeth. Knowing what it is, I deliver constant blows to that spot until the wolf stops moving.

After making sure it was dead, I sit for a while next to the wolf's corpse to rest a bit.

[+0.001 SP]

Looking at the screen, I can only be surprised. I just earned 0.001 SP for killing this wolf. Although I love the idea of earning points in a different way than just doing missions, the amount is so small that I'll only get 1 SP after killing over 1000 of these wolves. If one day I manage to kill more powerful creatures, I might expect more points, but I don't know how many points I might get.

"I don't know if you understand me, system, but don't show me the points earned for killing monsters. I don't want the SP section to show those decimal points now."

[….]

I don't know if it understood me, but I'll find out the next time I kill one of these beasts.

I decided to follow the stream. I advanced cautiously, my senses expanded to the maximum thanks to the aura. Every step I took was calculated. The forest was beautiful in a way that made your hair stand on end. Flowers that glowed with their own light, mushrooms that pulsed softly.

Honestly, I wish I had my cell phone right nowI would love to take some picturesthough in a way I'm grateful I didn't bring it, as that would bring a lot of problems, and I don't really like buying cell phones.

Suddenly, the landscape changed. The trees opened up to reveal a clearing lit by a soft, silvery light—moonlight filtered through a sky that shouldn't exist. And in the center, a kneeling figure.

A woman.

She wore torn clothes, a cultivator's robe shredded and stained with blood. Around her, three of those dark creatures approach slowly, as if savoring the moment. She brandishes a long sword, but her arm trembles visibly; she's injured and looks exhausted.

Without thinking much, I quickly ran towards her and, using my aura, delivered a powerful kick to one of the beasts, sending it straight into the lake. The other two attacked constantly, but I managed to land small blows that weakened them until only the one from the lake remained, which fled.

I breathed a bit exhausted.

The clearing fell silent, broken only by my steady breaths.

Looking at the woman, she bows forward, leaning on her sword.

"My gratitude... stranger. I don't know who you are, but you arrived at the perfect moment."

"It's nothing. My name is—"

What name am I supposed to give? It's obvious I can't give my real name since it's very different from the ones used in these types of novels—they're usually Chinese names like Chin Ling or Long Wang.

"My name is Wil Lang."

"Nice to meet you, Mr. Lang. My name is Ling Xue."

It's very likely that this arc will be very long, so I'll try to develop it so that it doesn't just remain as another world for the protagonist to visit, maybe there could be a love interest here.
