Danni was only there for maybe 30 seconds, but it was the most important, most devastatingly clear 30 seconds she felt she had ever experienced. For there he was, her Doctor, her madman with his blue box and his stray humans, stood right in front of her. He didn't have his strays that time, no Amy or Rory even though he was Eleven. He wasn't wearing a fez or a Stetson, or even tweed, decked out as he was in a purple jacket with a purple vest underneath, a pair of round glasses perched on his nose. He looked older, somehow, even though he never really aged it was the way he held himself that gave off the air of maturity. Something had happened to make him age, some terrible thing that she had an idea of, but didn't want to admit to it because it meant they'd still gone to Manhattan. The Angels still took Rory and Amy from him.
They were at the exit of an Earth play-park. It was a beautiful day, not a cloud in the sky and children of all ages were running about and shouting to each other, playing without a care in the world, much like children did. The swings were particularly popular today, they had always been her favourite as well, she couldn't blame them.
River stood at his side, wearing a relatively mundane outfit for the dramatic woman, skinny jeans and a jacket with big boots. Her hair was still big and curly, that never changed. The pair were staring at her, wide-eyed in shock at the very sight of her flashing into appearing at what seemed to be a most unexpected moment. As if they hadn't seen her for so long, they had stopped expecting her to appear randomly.
But while she could recall the moment in very fine detail, the fact that the swings were busy or the sky was blue were burnt into her memory, her attention hadn't been on them, but the girl the Doctor held to his side, holding her aloft like he was showing her off. She can't have been more than 4, at the top end of being a toddler but still quite a small girl wearing blue overalls with white trainers. She was frowning in confusion, the appearance of the woman as a big surprise to her as it was to the adults. Danni couldn't tear her eyes off her large, blonde curly hair, or her greeny-grey eyes, or the pair of glasses she wore. The fact that this girl was a miniature River Song crashed into her chest harder than the fact the Doctor hadn't obviously seen her in a very long time.
"Danni?" The Doctor breathed.
"Mummy?" The little girl asked, reaching out towards River.
"No..." Danni whispered, and she was gone.
