Chapter 09: Growing Family

– Solomon White (Azuth) –

With my current point drought, I can't justify using the few points I have left to get laid. There's plenty of characters that I could summon for it since any powerless human would cost me pocket change, but as it stands, I need every point I can get.

So, despite Moxxi flirting, Vicky cockblocking, and Angela wearing yoga pants, I ultimately decided against using my power for some relaxation. Fortunately, while I slept, the city was nice and busy. The Rollerz have been holding races all night, and Moxxi has been advertising the races to attract gamblers.

I'm sure some people are going to lose all their money, but honestly? I can't protect people from themselves; it's not like gambling is going to go away if I get Moxxi to stop. The Ronin have several underground casinos, and while I wouldn't say I approve… they're extremely low on my list of priorities.

Rumours of people being harvested for their organs to pay their debts do place them a little higher, but this is Brockton Bay. In the grand scheme of things, it's small time. God, I hate this place. The solution to that is simple… don't get into debt while gambling. The Ronin only seem to do that for extreme cases, which doesn't make it better, but how do you end up millions in debt without stopping and thinking, 'Wait, maybe I should stop'?

As I said, I can't protect people from themselves.

I don't know what the Rollerz do about debtors, but Moxxi isn't a gang leader for no reason. She's ruthless despite her looks and flirty act.

"Good morning, Sol," Angela says as I trudge downstairs.

"Morning, Angela," I reply, seeing that she's already made my breakfast. She really is a good guardian. "Are you working today?"

"I am. I have several surgeries to do today," Angela agrees. "What are your plans for today?"

"I'm honestly not sure. I'll probably do another patrol as Azuth and maybe check in and see how all the schemes I've started are going," I admit.

"I don't suppose I can convince you to take some time off for yourself?" Angela asks fondly, making me shrug.

"Probably not, no," I agree with a shrug. "I'm working on a time limit, and this Monday could be extremely important."

It's Saturday now, and the Locker Incident is supposed to happen on the first day at Winslow after the Winter Break. That's Monday. Sophia is currently in a heap of shit, but I can't trust that she won't try anyway, and I still don't know what the hell I'm supposed to do about Taylor, to begin with.

Is it better to have her trigger or take her off the board entirely? Taylor is known for being paranoid and having a serious habit of escalating situations, and that's the last thing I need. I can't rely on things going the same way, so Khepri is unlikely to happen. Taylor would just be another moving piece I'd have to try and balance, and one that specialises in making situations worse.

With no Undersiders, I can't even predict where she'd end up. I've still not located this world's Coil, Tattletale or Regent. The Empire killed Grue, and Bitch works for Faultline, but that leaves two Undersiders and their secret boss missing.

I fundamentally do not believe that I've ended up in an Earth Bet with no Coil slinking around causing trouble. My life is not that simple. I suppose I could have asked Alexandria, maybe traded some information for it, but I don't want to reveal my hand so early.

I am willing to work with Cauldron, but that doesn't mean I trust them. I need to find a summon that I can use to infiltrate them and keep a closer eye on whatever they're up to.

Angela heads off for work after breakfast. She's not due for a while, but she's a very hard worker and tends to arrive at the hospital early. I think she's enjoying the simplicity of 'just' being a doctor again instead of being Mercy of Overwatch.

Which leaves me alone to check in on matters. Soldier has been sleeping in since he was on patrol last night. The PRT is trying to find the vigilante who took down Victor and several Empire thugs, but Soldier has been playing vigilante for a long time in his world, and avoiding government attention is something he's gotten used to. Vigilante activity was outlawed by the Petras Act in his world, and he still managed to stay under the radar for years.

Fleur and Mouse Protector are still under observation to make sure that I'm not the next coming of Teacher. Fleur's healing has been tested and confirmed to be safe by Panacea. Mouse Protector is already using her new rat administrator power to harass the Empire, who have put a bounty on her head.

Uber hasn't left their lair since the Tournament, despite a stream showing off her new power. They're up to something, but I don't think it's a problem. Bitch also hasn't left Fauntline's club and has been spending all her time with her dogs, now that she can understand them.

Duplikate has remained a good source of intel on the PRT. Sophia is in deep shit and has been put on indefinite console duty, but Kate is convinced that Sophia is a ticking time bomb because she's not taking being punished well. There's also the fact that her reputation is in the gutter thanks to the video of Fenja easily beating her, which went viral. Sophia has a short fuse, and it's burning fast.

Weld has become a serious icon for the Case 53s. She's proof that there is a chance for them to be cured, even if she's made sure to warn them that I have my limits and can't freely restore them all. It hasn't stopped a steady swarm of Case 53's starting to head toward Brockton Bay, but the warning that they could get blacklisted from being helped if they cause trouble has lessened the damage.

Many are going to the PRT, but the PRT can't make promises on my behalf, and they know it. As such, there are a lot of 53s waiting for the next game to begin. The issue is simple. They won't wait forever. I'm a glimmer of hope, but their desperation is a problem. There are more Case 53s than I can possibly hope to heal at the moment. I just don't have the income set up.

My musings are interrupted by a flash of light, causing me to spin and prepare to summon my elementals to protect me. I'm not wearing my Azuth disguise at the moment, but it doesn't matter much if someone has located me already-

I freeze, watching the oval-shaped portal form right in my living room, realisation striking before the figure has even finished stepping through. Oddly enough, as I look at the woman who just portaled into my house like she owns the place, my first impression is actually… slight disappointment.

I don't know why. I just expected more from the Boogeyman herself. She is sharply dressed, in a form-fitting suit and a matching black fedora, but Contessa is a living nightmare, so I somehow thought she'd look more. I could walk past her on the street without realising how dangerous she was if it weren't for her signature hat.

"I realise that Cauldron knows who I am, out of costume, but I can't say I appreciate you letting yourself in like you own the place, Fortuna," I say, calling on my Azuth voice and taking the initiative as Contessa pauses for a moment, a slight smirk crossing her lips. "I gave Rebecca my number. You could have just made an appointment."

I knew it was only a matter of time until Cauldron worked out who I am out of costume. That's the problem with being a blank. They just have to look for the person they can't path.

"My apologies, Mr White, but I'm not here on Alexandria's orders," Contessa replies easily, making me frown.

"But your Paths shouldn't be able to see me, so I doubt I'm one of your steps either," I point out, getting a slightly amused look from her. "You might as well take a seat. I doubt you're going to leave until you finish whatever you're here for."

"Azuth, I've spent years working around Eidolon. Do you really think I can't work you into my Paths?" Contessa asks after a moment as she takes the offered seat, making me pause before I nod in acceptance. Fair point.

"Here to see if I can remove your blindspots?" I ask, making her shake her head.

"If you could, you'd have done it already. You want the Enemy gone as badly as we do," Contessa reasons. "I'm guessing it is laughably out of your current capabilities?"

"Indeed. Bringing Hero back would cost less than half of what it would take to remove your limitations. Your power is just an 'I win' button, and the costs reflect that," I admit, making her nod easily. She obviously knew that already. "Then why are you here, Contessa?"

"Firstly, to tell you that Jack Slash has been eliminated," Contessa says simply. Instantly, I feel an influx of points, making my eyes widen. "You were correct about his powers. Even the act of you telling Alexandria about his master power seemed to alert him that something was wrong. However, he was ill-prepared for the attack. Honestly, he was rather pathetic in the end."

"How did you take him out?" I ask, making her smile grimly.

"A crack squad of non-cape hitmen armed with the best weapons money could buy. We made sure that no cape would know about the details, even me, until it was over. The upgrades he had from Bonesaw made him harder to kill, but an anti-materiel round through his skull destroyed his brain before he even realised he was being hunted," Contessa explains. "His body was utterly destroyed."

"And the rest of the Nine?" I ask, frowning thoughtfully.

"I captured Bonesaw after Jack was confirmed eliminated. Her deadman's switches needed to be dealt with. Crawler has been relocated to another Earth, one that is already dead, so we can use him for the final battle. If we don't need him, he gets an Earth to himself, but either way, he's no longer a threat," Contessa explains calmly, reminding me that she really is the Boogeyman. "The others scattered. Your power benefits from conflict, and as such, my Path deemed it best to let them escape. It's also why I have been subtly causing conflict with those who gain your 'boons'."

Hmm, I did think it was odd that they'd already got into so many fights, but this is also Brockton Bay.

"Well, I appreciate the heads up, and Jack's death should prevent Gold Morning from happening so soon. It was a very specific set of circumstances that led to Jack triggering the end, but it's better to remove the risk entirely," I explain, making her nod in easy agreement.

"Without Jack and his master power, the Nine are finished. With him gone, I can clearly see that it was only his power keeping them working together. Hatchet Face tried to kill Siberian within minutes of Jack's death, and the others weren't far behind them, descending into infighting," Contessa explains. "Siberian killed Hatchet Face. He mistakenly believed he would nullify her power, not realising that Manton was far outside his range. She ate his liver."

I don't get full credit for this, but I can feel the influx of points since this is a result of my own actions. I get the feeling my power was fucking with me by hiding this until she arrived.

"That doesn't exactly explain why you're here. I would have thought you had better things to do than play messenger," I counter, making her chuckle.

"I have other reasons for being here, and my Paths can tolerate me being occupied for a few minutes. Firstly, while I am aware that you cannot fix my power yet, I wish to get a boon of my own," Contessa explains. "That would make me a source of income for you, wouldn't it?"

"Just like that?" I ask, making her smile again.

"You don't trust Cauldron, and for good reason. This is mutually beneficial. Your boon will make my paths easier to complete, as Path to Victory can path your powers while giving you a way to gain more points," Contessa reasons.

"What boon do you want?" I ask after a moment of thought. I can't see a reason to refuse since I can remove my boons if I need to.

"The one you gave Fleur, please. Shadow Touched, not the healing power," Contessa says, making me nod as I reach out and take her hand. It's surreal to see Path to Victory in all its glory, but I focus and pass over Shadow Touched, picking Disguise Self as the extra spell. "Thank you."

What can Contessa do with Invisibility and Disguise Self? I'm not sure I want to know. What matters is that she just let me make a link with her. Cauldron's Secret Weapon just willingly gave me a backdoor.

"Now, the next order of business," Contessa continues, and as she speaks, a second one of Doormaker's portals opens up above her, and someone drops out of it. Contessa catches the girl without even blinking, and I feel my blood run cold at the sight of the unconscious girl.

Dressed in a blue and white dress, the blonde girl looks like she's probably around eleven years old as Contessa lays fucking Bonesaw down on my living room table. Oh lovely, she's got blood all over her dress.

"Contessa, explain," I say, squeaking slightly as Contessa smirks briefly.

"Bonesaw has too much potential to be killed, but without Jack keeping her under control, she'd rapidly destroy the world as she is now. There are plenty of ways I could keep her under control, but after some consideration, I decided on this one," Contessa explains. "Do you have enough points to fix her?"

"What did you have in mind?" I ask, non-committedly. It does occur to me that I called it energy to Alexandria, but Contessa calls it points, which is what it actually is. I don't doubt that she's doing that deliberately. Has she spied on me speaking to Angela?

"You claim to be able to do anything. Can you change Bonesaw's appearance to look different, then alter her history to add her into your 'family' as a cousin?" Contessa asks, making me blink.

"You want me to adopt Bonesaw? Even with her personality altered, you think I can look after a girl like her?" I ask, making her laugh.

"With all due respect, Solomon? Not at all. I think Angela can look after her," Contessa corrects, making me hesitate before I snort.

"Okay, fair point. This is something I'd have to discuss with her first," I say, pausing as I hear the door open.

"Sorry, I forgot my purse-" Angela starts, freezing at the sight of Contessa and Bonesaw. Contessa calmly pulls out Angela's purse and tosses it over.

"Your first surgery has been delayed. You'll get the message in fourteen seconds. Traffic has delayed the patient," Contessa says calmly, making me sigh. Yeah, this is the Contessa I expected.

Angela goes to speak, but her shock apparently lasted fourteen seconds as her phone vibrates.

"I- Solomon, explain, please," Angela asks, making me smile grimly. I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels out of my depth dealing with Contessa.

It doesn't take long to bring her up to speed because she's quick to just accept whatever nonsense I say. I don't know whether she trusts me or she's used to the bullshit of my life.

"I think you should do it, Solomon," Angela finally says, making me look over at her.

"You realise that she's incredibly dangerous?" I ask, making her nod.

"From your description of her powers, very much so. That said, I trust us to look after her and lead her in the right direction more than I trust our new… friend," Angela points out pragmatically. We've moved to the kitchen, and Contessa isn't actively listening in, but the privacy is for show, and we all know it.

…she's not wrong. In the grand scheme of things, I'd rather Bonesaw be with us than with Cauldron.

With the death of Jack Slash, I do have the points for this. Contessa has made it clear she plans to leave the details to me. Maybe this is some kind of test? Even now, she's calmly sipping some tea as I try to work out what to do.

"What do you think I should do to her? I could wipe all her memories of her time with the Nine, of being Bonesaw," I say, making Angela hum.

"Maybe it would be for the best, but it does not feel… right. I honestly don't know what would be best for this position. The closet I can use as an example is Widowmaker. If I could remove her programming, would I also remove all her memories of becoming Widowmaker and her years as an assassin or leave them?" Angela asks herself, leaning against the counter with a frown. "I think, in that case, I would leave her memories and try to help her through them. Whether that is the right choice for Riley, I cannot say. It's the safest, at least."

Looking at the sleeping girl, I frown to myself as I consider my choices. Contessa seems utterly indifferent, patiently awaiting my choice. Making my mind up, I reach out for the sleeping girl and begin the operation.

Funnily enough, I don't change her appearance. Instead, I make a tiny change to her history. I make it always have been that Jack Slash got her a mask. That's it; that's the only difference to Bonesaw. It stops her face from being known.

As for Riley, I changed this world's history to make the Davis family distant relatives of Angela Ziegler. Upon her family's death, Riley was adopted by Angela and has been with her ever since. This means that there's no real way to connect the two because Riley was here while Bonesaw was off committing her atrocities.

But I don't remove her memories or master her because I agree with Angela. It doesn't feel right. Instead, I mute the memories of her time with the Nine. She'll still remember them, but they won't feel nearly as fresh or intense. She won't forget her true past, even as I craft a new history for her.

To remove Bonesaw entirely would cost too much. I can't alter history to prevent her from having ever become Bonesaw because she's done too much. The cost scales with how much it would affect the world. If Bonesaw never became a member of the Nine, who knows what would happen.

Well, I know. I looked, and it's not pretty. You'd think it would magically make the world better since so many people didn't die to Bonesaw, but Jack always was going to get his good girl. Bonesaw is dangerous, but there's another girl with similar powers right here in Brockton Bay who would have become Jack's little biological nightmare if he hadn't found Riley.

Marquis drove the Nine out of Brockton Bay when they last came. It makes sense that Jack would use Amy to get back at him. Jack wasn't even in the Nine at that point, but it's still a black eye that Marquis dealt them. Without Bonesaw, he hears about Panacea and finds her instead. Slaughterhouse Amelia makes the world far worse. Not only is Amy worse than Riley with that change, but it also means there's no Panacea.

Again, I could keep changing things to make the perfect world, but the cost rapidly increases beyond my capabilities. Instead, making Riley a separate entity is the easier path since her addition to Brockton Bay has changed so very little. I do briefly reach out to each of the surviving Nine and alter their memories of Riley, replacing her face with another. Maybe it would be smarter to alter Riley's appearance, but she's going to be going through enough without me adding her suddenly being in a different body onto it.

I've given Riley some new memories, as I did for Soldier and Duplikate. She will be able to tell the 'true' memories from the fake ones, but they're also real enough for her to fool anyone who 'knows' her. I've also gotten rid of the modifications she gave herself. Right now, she's just a regular girl (with the scariest tinker speciality of all time).

The only people who know she isn't really from here are me, Angela, Riley herself, and Contessa. Everyone else believes that the Ziegler household has had a quiet, shy blonde girl living here since her parents' tragic deaths at the hands of the Nine. I've even given Angela the false memories of raising Riley, and like Riley, she can tell between the real and the fake.

"Impressive," Contessa admits. I don't know what her power is feeding her, but she seems to approve. "I'm done here for today. The Paths require my attention. I'll be back."

Without a goodbye, she rises and walks through a portal that forms without any word or action from her, leaving me staring at the spot in bemusement. She portals into my house and gets a boon, drops a traumatised biotinker on me and then leaves without explaining. Yeah, that's Contessa, alright.

"Is Riley alright?" Angela asks, freezing as her phone vibrates again. "...the hospital is sending a car. Apparently, there's been an emergency. I do not believe I like our new friend."

"I left Riley asleep to let her mind work through the dual-memory stream, but she should wake up soon. I get the feeling Contessa thinks you shouldn't be here for that," I agree, rubbing my forehead. "Guess I've found out what I'm doing today."

"I could find an excuse not to go into work," Angela offers, but I just shake my head.

"I can't say I like Contessa's methods, but we are on the same side. I can handle this," I say, running a hand through my hair.

If I can't, I can just alter history to make it so Angela didn't need to go to work. That's a relatively small change, and the influx of points has left me with options.

"You're a good man, Sol. I think this is the best thing for Riley, and we'll make sure she doesn't fall back into any… bad habits," Angela praises, pulling me in for a hug and placing a kiss on my forehead. "I'm proud of you."

"We'll see how long that pride lasts with us living with a mass-murdering villain," I reply with a sigh despite the small smile on my lips. "I'll keep you updated. You're still one of my summons, so I can send mental messages."

"Please do," Angela agrees, and soon enough, I'm sitting around with Riley's sleeping form. Our house has gained a new bedroom which is filled with her 'belongings', and with a click of my fingers, her bloody blue dress is replaced with a new white one.

Moving her up to the new- to her bedroom, I'm briefly surprised by how light she is. I wasn't expecting much from a twelve-year-old girl, but she's like a feather. Azuth gets some use because while I want to be here when she wakes up, I can use Azuth to watch TV downstairs as I sit by her bed and play with Carbuncle, waiting for her to recover.

As she starts to stir, Carbuncle makes a cute squeaking sound and leaps from my lap to the bed, nudging her face with its nose. She is slow to rise, looking confused as the memories set in, and her face goes through a multitude of emotions over the course of a moment.

Grief, both for her parents and for Uncle Jack. Horror, regret, and countless other things that have no place being on such a youthful face as a pair of mismatched green and blue eyes lock onto mine.

"S-Solomon, right?" Riley says, her tone soft and youthful despite her deeds.

"That's right," I agree. From her new memories, I've only arrived in Brockton Bay this month, so she has fewer memories with 'me'.

"Is Aunt- is Angela here?" Riley asks, quiet and forlorn.

"No, Contessa, the woman who captured you, made sure she'd be needed elsewhere," I admit. "It's just us."

The room goes quiet for a moment, and I can't deny that I'm nervous. She looks like a very sad young girl, but she's also Bonesaw. Without her modifications and with no tools, she's less dangerous, but she's still an infamous member of the Slaughterhouse Nine.

"How are you feeling?" I ask, clearly unsure of how to handle the emotional girl that's fallen into my lap.

"Complicated," Riley admits, which gets a quiet, dry laugh from me. "I thought I was going to die when that lady grabbed me. I know what she planned for me… why didn't you just wipe the slate clean? That's what she thought you'd do."

"Honestly? Maybe I should have. It might have been best for everyone, you included. I could have gotten rid of everything, given you a new name and face, and made you think you lived in Brockton Bay your entire life. No trauma from the game Uncle Jack made you play, no memories of the years with the Nine," I admit, seeing her listening intently. "And if the choice were mine alone, I probably would have. Maybe the new girl in your body wouldn't be you, but she'd be happy, right? But, as it happens, Angela is a sucker for idiots with too much power and thinks you deserve a second chance."

"I don't," Riley says, her voice whisper-quiet. Her eyes are noticeably watery, and her tiny body trembles slightly as she speaks.

"Maybe not, but they don't call her Mercy for nothing," I say with a shrug. "So, what now? I can't let you go, Riley, not after everything, but if you'd rather forget it all, then I can do that."

"It'd be easier for everyone," Riley replies, clutching her dress with clenched fists. Carbuncle headbutts her hands, getting her attention as it forces its way onto her lap and cuddles her. She slowly moves her hand and starts to stroke its blue fur, which I know from experience is incredibly soft.

"But you don't want to take the easy way out," I say, making her nod.

"It feels… cowardly. I'd be happier, or the girl who came after me would be at least. After some of the things I've done to people, a little death of personality is nothing," Riley admits, letting out a choked laugh. "I once turned someone into a living iron maiden with spikes of bone inside. Hatchet Face tossed his wife inside, and I giggled. Because it was just a game, and Uncle Jack said it was okay."

"Bonesaw was a monster, maybe the worst of the Nine," I agree, making her flinch back. "No matter what, Bonesaw is dead. The world is a better place without her. The only question is whether Riley Grace Davis is going with her."

"You kept me around because I'm useful, didn't you?" Riley asks, making me nod. There's no point in lying.

"There's a war coming for the fate of this Earth and countless others. A part of me wanted to remove your personality entirely, to keep you around as a mindless slave," I confess. "It felt fitting, but then I'd just be doing what Jack did all over again. Turning you into my weapon."

I could have stashed her in my realm and removed Angela's memories of the encounter.

"For a better cause than mindless chaos," Riley says, almost sounding like she's reassuring me. "I'd deserve it."

"Maybe. So, what is it going to be? Angela thinks you deserve a chance at a second life, away from the Nine and Jack's bullshit. As it happens, she's smarter than me, so I'm inclined to go with her gut feeling," I admit. "I'll be honest. I don't trust you, and I doubt I will anytime soon. The safest option is to erase Riley entirely, but that feels like the easy way out."

"If I stray, you'll kill me, won't you?" Riley asks, making me hesitate.

"I will. You might be a child, but you're too dangerous for me to risk letting you escape again. Bonesaw was an apocalyptic threat all by herself, and when it's the fate of millions against a single girl, I won't hesitate," I agree, and despite my words, her expression brightens slightly.

"Aunt Ange… I can remember her, growing up with her after my parents… well, you know. You designed my past, after all," Riley says. "Do you think you'll ever be able to undo the damage I caused?"

"I do. With enough points, I can resurrect everyone Bonesaw ever killed without the memories of whatever horror you put them through. It's not a priority, but I could do it," I agree, making her go silent for a long moment, eyes closed in thought before she opens them.

"Then that's what I'll do. I made the world a worse place, but maybe I can help you save it. If I can help you win, then I have to. Killing 'Riley' would just be running from my crimes," Riley finally says, taking a deep breath. "I don't know what you're planning, Solomon, but use me however you need to. I'll be your good girl from now on."

"Did you have to put it like that?" I ask after a moment, making her grin ever so briefly. "Welcome to the team, Riley. We're probably all going to die in the near future. I suppose this makes us cousins, given your new background. God, this is one dysfunctional family."

"I've had worse," Riley adds, making us both pause before we snort. "Sol… thank you. So, what should we do first?"

"Well, Angela is at work and isn't due to be back anytime soon. She said I should take some time to relax, and frankly, you look like you need it as well," I say, making her blink. "Of course, there's no reason I can't mix business and pleasure, is there? So, Riley, have you ever wanted to build a world?"

With Jack dead, I have an influx of points and Riley's alterations weren't that expensive in the grand scheme of things. My biggest problem is getting the ball rolling, so to speak. I need a way to make points passively, and I have a veritable horde of people wanting a chance to earn my favour.

I just need a place to send them so they aren't fighting in the streets. What I really need is some kind of system where they can 'earn' their boons, but at a rate that causes them to earn me the points needed for the boon and then some left over so each blessing turns a profit.

If a lesser boon costs 100 points, then I need to make a system where someone earning a lesser boon gains me 110 points. I also need a way to automate a lot of the work.

"I have no idea what you're talking about, Sol, but I'm in," Riley agrees, making me chuckle as I open a portal to my realm, causing her eyes to widen.

"Come on, Riley, we have work to do," I say, ideas swarming in my head as she hesitates before she follows behind. As the portal closes, we look upon… a small, flat, barren wasteland that's barely the size of our garden back home.

But I can work with that.

As I begin to turn the wasteland into a grassland, a single building forms in the centre. I grin at the sign hanging above the door.

'Azuth's Adventurer's Guild'.

Hey, it worked for the isekai anime I used to watch. Still, I have far more to set up first. Time to see how far these points can…

As a second influx of points hits, smaller than the Jack Slash one, I pause and look into the source.

"What's wrong, Sol?" Riley asks, looking up from where she was examining the newly grown grass.

"I have an Uncle Jack as well, and he really hates Nazis," I admit, making her blink as I mentally watch Commander Jack Morrison, the All-American Hero Soldier: 76, beat a downed Stormtiger with a baseball bat.

"Mr Morrison? I remember him as well, he promised to teach me how to shoot a pistol when I got older," Riley admits, making me blink before I snort. Yeah, that sounds about right.

Some thugs try to help their downed, currently whimpering Cape… and shortly after, I get a much smaller influx of points. Man, he really doesn't like the Empire.

— Bonus Scene — Melissa (Mouse Protector)

Tests, tests, tests. She got why the PRT was so meek and cautious, but they were getting on her last whisker. Why, if she were a younger, less patient woman, she'd have given them a royal rodent thumping already with all their poking and prodding. They didn't even have the decency to buy a girl a drink first before giving her such a thorough prodding.

Instead, she was satisfied with merely waging a psychological war upon her captors, watching with a grin as Armsmaster struggled to maintain his composure. As she was about to start the next verse of Armsmaster's cartoon's theme song, she blinked as she felt something warm from her pants.

Since she hadn't peed herself, this was rather concerning as she dug through her many pockets to find the source of the inexplicable heat, letting out an 'ah-ha!' as she pulled out the answer to her mystery.

Raising it into the air in a triumphant pose, she looked up at the golden ticket as it let off a soft glow. The metal ticket was warm to the touch, even through her gloves.

The room went silent, all very dramatic-like, as she lowered it and began to read the changed text on the Wizard's ticket.

"What does it say?" Miss Militia asked, her tone serious and grim, as befitting a hero about to go on an epic adventure.

"Something, something, invitation, be the first to- blah, blah, monsters, blah, party of four," Mouse Protector replied, equally serious. "...blah."

With his helmet on, she couldn't see Armsy's face, but she was sure his eye just twitched as he gripped the table harder.

Author's Note: Unfortunately for Sol, Riley has blonde hair and a single blue eye, so she must join his Aryan superfamily.

Priapus' note: "the ubermensch exists and hates nazis" crops up a fair bit in superhero stuff, with Captain America and Superman, so it's more or less on theme.

I am entirely motivated by praise and interaction, so leave a review, and I'll probably write faster. I do read every review/comment, because it gives me the happy brain chemicals and motivates me to write more. My body is a machine that turns positive reviews into new chapters.

I have a Patreo n, where my supporters can vote on which fics get bonus chapters each cycle and have access to advance chapters, up to fifteen chapters ahead of the public release. Patreo n is also five chapters ahead and plat/diamond tier have voting rights for my Quest. Feel free to check it out.

I also set up a Subscribe Star as well, more or less just as a backup/test to see which I prefer. The chapters are available on Discord if you're a Patreo n and on the site directly on Subscribe Star due to the different site rules, so if you don't use Discord or have issues finding the chapters, Subscribe Star is the better choice.

The Advance Chapters

Diamond: The Celestial Escalation Ch07, The Celestial Farmer Ch04, The Illusive Mage Ch09, The Game Master Ch11, Guide to Necromancy Ch10

I have a Discord server with a bunch of other authors and a load of porn. So much porn.

Here's the link for that: discord .gg/DarkWolfShiro

If it says it's expired, it is probably your account being unable to join NSFW servers, and you'll need to fix that. If you fix that and it still says it's expired, add me (DarkWolfShiro), and I'll invite you myself.
