Chapter 48 - THE MONSTER’S BOOTY.

Another burst of lightning split the clouds. The last pocket of Eaters circled them in the ruined intersection — a flooded pit of broken cars, signs swaying, windows rattling in the wind.

Savier ducked behind Johnquis, flipping his shotgun into a freak's gaping mouth, blasting upward —

BOOM! 

Then vaulting onto a leaning streetlight to fire again from above. Johnquis surged forward, chain wrapping one monster's arms, yanking it into Savier's blade.

Their boots splashed, metal rang, the thunder roared and then, through the mess, Savier's eyes darted beyond Johnquis' shoulder.

There she was. Dancer — silhouetted in the broken window of a caved-in store. Her pale skin glowed like moonlight through the storm. Her foot-blade flicked out, slicing a crawler in half at the waist. She landed on its twitching corpse, rain dripping down the curves of her hips and thighs. Her eyes glowed golden as she locked eyes with Savier — just for a second.
