Chapter 78 - Chapter 75 Let Me Grow Higher and Higher

Aveline

After that night, my body is sore as hell. Fuck, she's a wolf—a beast—but I don't care. I mean, I do, but for now, I'm with Alia at uni. I missed almost a whole year of classes. I'm not even into literature that much, but since I was bored, I decided to continue this shit.

We were in the cafeteria, and she was gossiping about everything that had happened in my absence. Not a single damn jerk had the guts to say, "We cut your name off the list." That's the funny part.

Alia gave me all the notes. Yeah, she's my bestie—I know, I've known her since the beginning of the beginning. It's hard as hell, but I had to bear the pain.

Anyway, we were sipping coffee, laughing over random stuff. Alia and Mireline? They're never falling in love, I swear. I bet they'll die single.

Alia, in my absence, had just been studying. No romance, no drama. She's never been in a relationship, even though four—yeah, four—guys tried to approach her. She rejected them all flat. Not even a chance. And me? I was just staring at her blankly.

She's dumb. But maybe that's good. No one's gonna break her heart that way.

I shook my head, smiling at her. She raised an eyebrow and leaned in, resting her head on her palm, looking at me.

"Alia, six days from now I have a competition."

She looked at me, lightly hit my arm, and said, "My little Aveline is growing up great."

She was patting my head like I was a kid who made her mama proud.

I rolled my eyes, and we both started laughing so hard. Then suddenly she said, "Wanna do something fun, like clubbing or amusement park? And don't say I'm not a kid."

"Hmm…" I pretended to think.

"I know you're dumb, Aveline Sun," she teased.

I stuck out my tongue. "Hell yeah, let's go."

First, we hit the club. Just fun, I swear—nothing wild. We danced, had a few drinks—not drunk, though, thank God. After that, we went to the park. So many rides. She knows I'm afraid of horror stuff and still—still—forced me into the haunted house.

My heart was in my throat. Eyes wide. Lips trembling. I saw a ghost—real, yes, real.

"Alia, real ghost."

"Idiot. Dummy one," she said.

I'm afraid, okay? I don't hallucinate. I don't make shit up.

After that near-death experience, we finally made it out.

I'll kill her later. She's cruel.

I pouted. She gave me a hug. I couldn't stay mad—but on one condition:

"I'll forgive you, but I want to go to my favorite place. And it's your treat."

She chuckled. "Sure, sure. Let's go, baby girl."

Yeah. My favorite place. A chill, aesthetic café. Calm, cozy. We used to go there—before everything. Before marriage and chaos and whatever else.

We sat in our usual spot: two chairs near the window at the far end. I said to Alia, "It's been so long since we last came here."

"Yeah, me too," she replied.

After our drinks and some laughs, we got up to leave. But something felt off.

Alia looked at me. "You thinking what I'm thinking?"

I nodded. The road was clear. No cars. Nothing. But then we saw a man—nervous, trying to run. Two SUVs blocked his path. Then came two Land Cruisers. Then two Range Rovers. And in the center—a Bugatti.

Familiar.

My eyes went wide. Pulse racing. Chills crawling up my skin. I knew who it was.

I whispered, "She's Ruby, Alia."

Alia snapped her gaze to me. "That man did something, didn't he? That's why she's here."

I nodded.

Ruby stepped out. White button-down tucked into suspenders. Blazer slung over one shoulder like she didn't even try. Tight pants. Gold watch. Walking sin.

Alia's jaw dropped. Behind Ruby, Luna and Adam stood—rage boiling. Baseball bat in hand.

Ruby made eye contact with me. Held it. Then swung the bat—crack—straight to the man's knee. He screamed. I flinched. Luna and Adam moved, shielding me and Alia.

Ruby… she was beating him. Merciless. I was terrified of that version of her.

She pulled out a pistol. Aimed.

I moved before I could think. Luna and Adam tried to stop me, but I pushed forward. I stood in front of her, above the gun.

I was scared. But more scared of her like that.

"No, Ruby. No," I said, lips trembling.

She hissed, "Step aside, Aveline Sun."

I closed my eyes. Her guards looked down. Two of them held the man.

I grabbed her wrist, hands shaking. "Please, Ruby. For me. Stop. I'm scared."

She dropped her arms. The gun pointed down.

I hugged her. She didn't hug back—but didn't push me away either.

She whispered, "Let's go home."

I whispered back, "First let me make sure Alia gets home safe."

She nodded. Said to Adam, "Go. Drop Alia at her house."

Alia hugged me tight. "I'll see you tomorrow. Love you."

She turned to Ruby. "Don't you dare say anything to my bestie, Ruby."

Ruby chuckled—a rare thing. "Your bestie? I didn't dare say anything to her. Not after she stood in front of me while I was holding a gun and stopped me."

She winked.

I stared at her.

She held me. Possessive. Her knuckles bleeding. Her hand raw. Didn't care. We sat in her Bugatti. She drove—with that injured hand.

She looked at me. I looked at her. Electricity. Static. Rage in her red eyes. Fear in my blue ones.

She didn't scream. Didn't let the anger out on me. Just drove like a storm.

We got home. She slammed her door, came around, yanked mine open. Grabbed my hand. Pulled.

She stormed through the halls like a beast. Her grip bruising.

She locked the door with a loud click—

and shrugged off her jacket like she was shedding mercy.

I was already on the bed when she climbed up,

one knee sinking into the mattress, eyes burning into mine.

Without a word, she grabbed both my wrists—

pinned them above my head like it was muscle memory.

No struggle could've saved me.

Her grip? Unreal.

Like she wasn't just strong—

She was inevitable.

Her palm slid down to my thigh, gripping tight, straightening it, spreading me without hesitation.

Her breath danced over my collarbone, hot and deliberate—

Then came the growl.

> "Fuck it, Aveline," she muttered against my skin,

"Are you an idiot? Standing in front of a gun like you're invincible?"

"Like a bullet wouldn't dare kiss you?"

"I know you won't," I whispered, daring her.

"You can't kill me."

She paused, just for a second.

Then her gaze flicked up, sharp as a blade.

> "Don't trust me that much," she said lowly, like a warning dressed in velvet.

"I might break you, Aveline Sun."

The chill her voice gave me was addicting.

Still, I pushed.

> "Then fucking break me, Ruby Daniel Sun."

Her laugh—

A dark chuckle that echoed right through my spine.

And then?

She did.

Her hand disappeared beneath the lace, under silk and secrets,

and I gasped when her fingers found my clit—

confident, cruel, unrelenting.

My body arched. I screamed.

But she didn't care.

Three fingers—

I couldn't take it, but she was making me take it.

No mercy.

Just her breath on my neck,

her mouth crashing against mine,

lips bruising mine like they were property.

My collarbone.

My breasts.

She was nipping them like punishment,

but never once did she let my wrists go.

I was hers—pinned, trembling, undone.

And she kept going.

Faster. Rougher.

Teasing every nerve in my body until I was nothing but need.

No escape.

No air.

No salvation.

Just Ruby—

and the way she knew exactly how to ruin me.

"She held me—not out of love, not out of want—just hollow arms around a ghost she didn't realize was fading."

---

Morning.

Max visited. Ruby had a meeting. Abroad. Again.

My competition was close. She wouldn't be here. Again.

But I had fun with Max. He said, "Can't I visit my sister-in-law?"

You can. You always show up outta nowhere. But I'm glad.

Ruby came back. We didn't talk. I was mad. Still sore.

I practiced dancing.

She approached. Cold.

"I have a business meeting. I'm leaving tonight."

I nodded. Wanted to stop her. But didn't.

She left. No goodbye. No kiss. Just gone.

Leon curled around my legs. Soft. Warm. A distraction.

From what?

The pain?

The hate?

The rage?

Or maybe...

I'm not even mad at her.

I sighed.

Mr. Han said, "Madam, don't worry. Focus on your competition. She'll come."

He left. I stared at the door.

She left marks.

Like she was saying to the world—

"She's mine."

About her hand her injury she didn't let me touch it...
