Chapter 2 - chapter 2: early spring 2

"I'm scared" I muttered to myself, there were so many uncertainties, of course we couldn't live only on the money given by the orphanage, we had to survive, the more I thought about it, the harder it became, I felt like running to the orphanage and never stepping out, my thoughts broke off when I felt a subtle squeeze on my hand, I slowly turned and my sister Bethel was staring at me with all the care in the world she could offer me, yes I was not alone, my sister was with me, she always would, both in happiness, pain, uncertainties and at times like this, she always would and has always had been.

" Let's go " she said, while smiling at me,you don't want to stand here all day, now do you? She tugged at my hands and pulled me further, as we got closer to the end of the pussy willows field, I could almost hear my heartbeat, " this was it" I kept on Saying in my head. As soon as we walked more, we stepped into the first street adjacent to the orphanage, my sister had a smile filled with contentment, which was a total contrast to what I was feeling, we kept on walking , we were going to go back to the house we once lived with our Dad, no that we wanted to,but it was the only place and accomodation recommended to us by the orphanage, we just hoped it was still in a habitable condition.

We reached the neighborhood, and surprisingly, I couldn't remember anything much, as the years went by at the orphanage, the memories I had of home faded like an old photograph tested with time, the echoes of the laughter we shared quietened down until they were forgotten. Coming here, I hoped to relieve those memories, but there was nothing. The neighborhood had probably been deserted for at least four years, there were scraps everywhere, the once opaque white house had now dimmed with time. We finally reached the house which was once a home for us,it wasn't in the most pleasant shape, we would have to do a lot of repairs before we could comfortably live here

" Ugh" Beth coughed as we stepped inside and was faced with twelve years accumulation of dust and cobwebs, we had to cover our noses as we surveyed the house. The living room wasn't very large, there was an old mahogany table facing the fireplace, the chairs had worn out, there was nothing important, or notably precious. We walked through the small corridor, and noticed there were only a total three rooms, the first was obviously the king's bedroom, the second was completely empty, there wasn't even a single objet in there, we moved to the third room which was the children's bedroom, it consisted of two small beds at opposite side the walls, there were drawers besides each bed and shelves, there were broken and old toys on the floor, the wardrobes were empty and the Pink wallpaper was torn, just the thought that this was once the room shared by Beth and I made my eyes stung as tears welled up, Beth wrapped her arms around me and pulled me into an envelope of love, care and future promises.

" We would need to clean this place up" Beth said and released a sigh,

We would also need supplies, do you mind here while I'de buy a few things, hmm? Beth asked,

I wanted to go with her, but I just nodded yes, I didn't want to act like a liability, she went back to the living room and I tailed slowly behind her, she carried her hand bag and walked towards the door, she turned around and gave me a warm smile before stepping out and shutting the door close.
