Just as Peter and the others were considering how to deal with the seemingly formidable Korvac, Peter received a call from Gwen. After hanging up, he looked at the Guardians of the Galaxy and Thor with a strange expression and told them something unbelievable: "Uh, a friend of mine found Korvac. Actually, he was looking for us. To be precise, he was seeking the Avengers' help."
Everyone looked at Peter, confused, completely failing to understand what was going on.
In truth, Peter didn't know what was happening either, but one thing was clear from Gwen's call: Korvac was in a very bad state.
He claimed to be the Living Cosmic Cube, which was very odd. This universe already had a Cosmic Cube, confirmed to be the shell of the Space Stone. For another entity with the same name, but as an evolved Cosmic Cube, to suddenly pop up seemed illogical, especially since this one claimed to be from the distant 31st century and related to Kang the Conqueror.
Also, because Kang the Conqueror was involved, the probability that the issue involved time travel was extremely high. Peter thought as he flew with the Guardians of the Galaxy to the outskirts of San Juan. As requested, Gwen had brought Korvac there.
As the spaceship slowly descended, the seemingly imbecilic, drooling Korvac slowly moved his head, tracking the ship's descent. When Peter stepped out, Korvac grinned foolishly and shouted, "Hey, Spider-Man! It's me! Korvac!"
"Sorry, Korvac, I don't know you, at least not yet," Peter shrugged. "If I'm not mistaken, you must have experienced time travel? So you know us, but we don't know you."
"Oh, yes, I came too early." Korvac nodded, then looked around warily. "But the... the Avengers promised to take me home..."
Kang the Conqueror had been observing all of this from nearby Spider-Man's location. The moment Korvac appeared, he paid close attention to the entity. Then, the energy signature emanating from him attracted his notice. After careful comparison, Kang was stunned to discover that the energy he had been searching for—the energy that triggered the multiversal collision crisis—was identical to the energy bursting forth from the man before him.
He had finally found the source of that energy!
Kang acted. In an instant, before anyone noticed, he froze time around the area. He descended from his throne, took out a future-tech pistol, and aimed it at Korvac.
He didn't believe the pistol could destroy Korvac, but it could emit a stasis field that fixed an object's time. Perhaps taking Korvac would cause an error in the time stream, but it didn't matter now. He was Kang the Conqueror, the Conqueror of Time; modifying history was merely a commonplace chore for him.
"Kang is here!!!"
Korvac let out a sharp, booming cry. A powerful surge of energy instantly tore through the frozen spacetime. In a moment of shock, Peter and the others were stunned to see a man in purple armor suddenly appear among them, someone who had not been there moments before.
"Who is he?!" Star-Lord reacted first, pulling on his mask and demanding sharply. Kang remained silent, for he too was profoundly shaken—this person named Korvac possessed no time-travel device, yet he could break through Kang's stopped time. It was truly strange.
Indeed worthy of being the entity that triggered the multiversal collision crisis; he clearly had some tricks up his sleeve.
"I am Kang the Conqueror, a time traveler from the 31st century, and the ruler of Earth at that time. I have no intention of interfering with your past, but I must take this person with me."
"I say, you have to give a reason if you want to take him," Star-Lord said, raising his gun and aiming it at Kang. Kang paused, then offered an explanation: "Because in the future year 2015, a crisis will tear apart the temporal structure of the entire multiverse. The entire multiverse is headed for destruction, and without a doubt, this man is the culprit."
The multiverse is being destroyed? By Korvac?
For a moment, almost everyone was lost in thought. Some were pondering the plausibility of Kang's words, others were wondering how it could happen. But regardless, Kang's movements didn't stop; he directly attempted to launch an attack.
In contrast, Korvac, upon realizing that most people had started thinking, fell into a panic. In that moment, he felt abandoned by everyone.
"You won't catch me again! Kang! Never again!"
"Wait! Korvac!"
Peter failed to persuade Korvac, who was past listening to reason. A blinding, almost destructive light erupted from him. Peter instinctively pulled Gwen, who lacked self-protection, behind him. In that split second, Thor slammed his hammer into Korvac, sending the entire entity flying out.
"Leave this to me, Spider-Man. You are not his match," Thor said with a serious expression, then raised his hammer and flew up. Adam Warlock followed, his face grim. The two of them were going to face a Living Cosmic Cube.
Meanwhile, Peter noticed a new anomaly.
"Wait... where's Kang the Conqueror?"
Yes, in the instant Korvac flared up, Kang had vanished—he'd run away.
"They call that guy Kang the Conqueror? Should be Kang the Escapist," Rocket sighed helplessly, then looked at their spaceship. "Alright, let's go, Quill. This planet is doomed. You don't actually think that human-shaped bomb can be stopped now, do you?"
Star-Lord silently gazed up at the sky. After all, this was his home planet.
Amidst the general silence, Peter looked at Professor Michael. The professor had remained completely silent since hearing the phrase Cosmic Cube. Peter's suspicion about the professor's true identity deepened.
"Professor Michael, are you hiding something from us?"
"What?" Michael looked at Peter, not understanding why Spider-Man would say that. "I don't know what you're talking about, Spider-Man."
"When I passed by you, I felt a sense of danger. Professor Michael, you're not an ordinary person. And when the Kree Empire was mentioned, you had a clear emotional fluctuation," Peter finished, then looked at the members of the Guardians of the Galaxy. "Plus, there are some aliens here. I believe these friends might be able to tell me exactly who you are."
