The English version of the Russian word "Kravinoff" is "Kraven," and his self-proclaimed title as "the Hunter" was a perfect match for his gear.
A Russian super-soldier?
Felicia immediately realized that she was no match for him. Even setting aside the enhancements from the super-soldier serum, she couldn't match his physical prowess or combat training.
Thankfully, she had a "teammate." All she had to do was wait for Spider-Man to attack, and everything would be fine.
"Professional, sharp, and well-equipped. Miss, you don't look like an ordinary burglar."
Kraven, like an anachronistic caveman, lunged at the Black Cat with a short spear. She dodged nimbly, only to see Kraven touch a railing on the second-floor mezzanine. Instantly, she saw spikes shoot out from the floor, forcing her to backflip to avoid them. Kraven, using his enhanced strength, leaped and swept his spear horizontally. Just after dodging the traps, the Black Cat raised her forearm to block the blow.
Kraven, who had expected to take her down with that one blow, was stunned when his spear snapped. "Are you an American super-soldier? From S.H.I.E.L.D. or the Pentagon?"
"You guess?"
The Black Cat smiled, not wanting to talk any more with Kraven. Kraven, however, was direct, throwing the broken spear at her lower body, which she once again nimbly dodged.
But it didn't matter. His target was never the Black Cat herself.
Another trap was triggered, and the Black Cat barely dodged a crossbow bolt. She looked at Kraven, unable to believe that anyone would install so many traps in their house. However, Kraven didn't seem to want a prolonged fight. That attack was just to buy him time to escape. He quickly ran to the end of the corridor, rotated a suit of medieval armor, and slipped into a secret passage.
"What kind of person fills their house with traps?"
While complaining about Kraven's style, the Black Cat activated the infrared camera on her tactical goggles, trying to pinpoint Kraven's location. She had no intention of chasing him directly. If Kraven had fled, he was definitely prepared. She was better off finding what she came for first.
But she quickly found that all her electronic devices were useless.
When all modern equipment was rendered useless, there was no doubt that the most primitive and direct methods were the most effective.
A round object suddenly appeared at Felicia's feet. She was shocked, stepped on the railing, and leaped down to the floor below. A flashbang's intense light went off behind the Black Cat, and as she landed, another identical flashbang appeared at her feet.
She managed to cover her eyes in time, but the flashbang also caused temporary deafness with its high-decibel sound. The continuous bright light prevented her from regaining her vision quickly. Felicia moved along the path she had memorized, knowing that Kraven was waiting for her nearby.
But she didn't expect it to happen so fast. Something struck her leg, and then something else hooked her back, hoisting her up.
Felicia breathed a sigh of relief. As the flashbang's light faded, she opened her uncomfortable eyes to see Spider-Man crouched on the ceiling. "What took you so long?"
"Well, their chimney had a lot of traps, so it took me a little while."
"Be careful, his mansion is full of traps."
"Yeah, I know."
Peter, of course, knew. He also knew that all of his suit's electronic functions were blocked once he entered the building. Fortunately, besides infrared vision, Peter had other ways to track someone.
He let the Symbiote take over his vision and shared the view. With that special vision, he could sense the heat radiating from all living things. This biological infrared vision was much more reliable and convenient.
Kraven was moving quickly. His movement speed was very fast, and then he stopped.
Peter's Spider-Sense went off, and he looked at the ceiling he was crouched on, cursing silently. He immediately jumped, wrapped his arms around Felicia's waist, and landed on the ground. The moment he landed, he realized he had landed in a bad spot. His Spider-Sense went off wildly, so he quickly grabbed Felicia and jumped onto the wall.
The mansion's ceiling actually opened to both sides, scattering lime powder onto the floor. The spot where Peter had just been standing collapsed, revealing a row of iron spikes.
"Phew." Felicia, who had been moved multiple times, experienced standing on a wall for the first time. She looked at the floor and ceiling, then wrapped her arms around Peter's neck. "He's a weirdo, isn't he?"
"Don't you think something is a bit strange?"
After carefully observing his surroundings, Peter raised a question. Felicia looked at him. "What?"
"These traps are too weak to harm us. A lot of these could have been set up to be more lethal, like replacing the crossbows with shotguns, or the lime powder with poison gas..."
Felicia looked at Peter carefully. "You have such dark thoughts when you wear this suit."
What does this suit have to do with it? Peter sighed, then, holding Felicia, he landed on the floor and said loudly, "I'm sorry, Mr. Kraven, we didn't mean to offend—if you agree that we are not your enemies."
Peter had concluded that Kraven, the Hunter, might not be an enemy after deducing his KGB background. After all, there were precedents; for example, Kraven in the '94 Spider-Man series wasn't a bad guy. But he couldn't be sure, which was why he was here tonight to investigate. To his surprise, curiosity had gotten the better of the cat, and Felicia had come to investigate on her own.
And while he was finding his way in, the two of them had already started fighting.
With a crisp click, the lights in the entire mansion came on. Kraven, in his hunter's outfit, walked out and stood on the second-floor staircase, looking at them.
"Then you'll have to have the young lady you're holding explain why an American super-soldier is trespassing in my home."
Peter quickly let go of Felicia, understood what Kraven was asking, and quickly explained, "Her super-soldier serum was stolen."
Kraven's expression instantly became very animated.
