When Kimi returned home that afternoon, her clothes clung to her skin like a second layer of disappointment. Water dripped from her hair onto the marble floor of the foyer.
The household staff rushed toward her the moment they spotted her soaked appearance. Their faces showed immediate concern as they took in her bedraggled state.
"I am fine," Kimi told them firmly, waving away their worried expressions.
She climbed the stairs to her bedroom with heavy steps. Each footfall echoed her dejection. Once inside, she peeled off her wet clothes and changed into something dry. She grabbed a towel and rubbed her damp hair vigorously, as if she could scrub away the memory of what had happened earlier.
Sitting on the edge of her bed, she felt the weight of her emotions crushing down on her chest. Her eyes burned with unshed tears that eventually spilled over, leaving tracks down her cheeks.
"I am such a crybaby," she whispered to the empty room.
