Brennan's voice trailed off as he spoke into his phone with Alvin. His attention shifted to Kolton, who sat motionless on his motorcycle outside a tattoo parlor. Kolton drew slowly on a cigarette, his eyes fixed on the glass storefront.
"Brennan, you know I was angry with him. But then Kimi came up and—"
"Kimi again? What's gotten into you, Alvin? Are you still hung up on her? She seems content with that Bennett guy. What about Kolton? Can't you see what's happening to him?"
Silence stretched across the phone line. Brennan watched Kolton through the window, feeling his chest tighten with frustration. He couldn't stand seeing his best friend like this.
