"Me?" Alvin's eyebrows raised as he looked directly at Kimi. "Yeah." She gave him a firm nod.
Alvin's gaze shifted to Kolton, whose dark eyes were locked on Kimi with an intensity that could burn through steel.
"Alvin, come on. You never keep a beautiful woman waiting," Brennan called out with a grin.
The compliment sent heat rushing to Kimi's cheeks. She ducked her head down, suddenly finding the ground fascinating while she waited for Alvin's answer.
"Beautiful? What a joke," Kolton's voice cut through the air, loud enough for everyone to hear.
The cruel words hit Kimi like a slap. Her face crumpled with hurt. Once again, he was tearing her down in front of everyone.
Alvin slid down from the car trunk where he had been sitting. "Alright. We can talk."
Kimi met his eyes and shook her head quickly. "Somewhere private."
Every head turned toward Kolton. His jaw clenched tight, but he stayed silent, though his hands curled into fists at his sides.
