Kolton's POV
The words hung in the air like poison.
"I, Alpha Kolton Zachary, reject you, Omega Kimi Jane, as my mate."
The moment they left my lips, agony ripped through my chest. My wolf howled in fury, clawing at my consciousness like a caged animal.
*What have you done?* he snarled. *She's ours. She's perfect.*
I gritted my teeth against the pain. Physical and emotional torment crashed over me in waves, but I refused to let it show.
Kimi's face crumpled. She doubled over, gasping as if the air had been stolen from her lungs, clutching her chest.
Good. Maybe now she'd understand her place.
But watching her suffer sent another spike of unexpected pain through my ribs. I forced myself to look away.
"Accept it," I commanded coldly.
She was gasping, tears streaming down her face. "Kolton, please—"
"Accept the rejection, Kimi."
For a moment, she just stared at me with those wide, wounded eyes. Eyes that reminded me of something I couldn't quite place.
