"This intermediate God deck is still one card short of a perfect synergy. It looks like I'll have to go out and buy that specific card after all." It was early the next morning. You Feng was an early riser, a habit he maintained even here at Duel Academy.
He had spent the early hours organizing his cards. Each of the Three Egyptian Gods had vastly different characteristics, so generally speaking, they were not used in a single deck together. For instance, The Winged Dragon of Ra had several specialized support cards; running them all alongside the other Gods would easily lead to a bricked hand.
Once he obtained that final card, the strongest God deck in existence would be born!
Of course, unless one was deliberately trying to summon Holactie the Creator of Light, there was no practical reason to run all three in one go.
Knock, knock!
"You Feng, are you awake?" Alexis was knocking at the door.
"The door's unlocked," You Feng replied as he put his deck away.
Alexis pushed the door open, her expression appearing quite anxious.
"You Feng, something has happened!" she said with a furrowed brow. Now, whenever trouble arose at Duel Academy, Alexis's first thought was always You Feng. Subconsciously, she had come to view him as incredibly reliable.
Beyond that, it was a clear sign of the sense of security a man provided in a woman's heart.
"What's the matter?" You Feng asked.
"Professor Banner is missing. We've searched many places and can't find him anywhere," Alexis said urgently.
Hearing this, You Feng wasn't particularly surprised. Calculating the time, it was indeed time for Professor Banner's plotline to begin.
"Alright, I'll go look for him. Where are Zane and your brother?" You Feng asked suddenly.
"Now that you mention it, I haven't seen either of them today." Alexis was stunned for a moment. As soon as she realized something was wrong, she had rushed straight to You Feng's dormitory without a second thought. Only now did she realize how important You Feng had become to herso important that she had forgotten to check on her own brother or her good friend Zane first.
"Let's go, time is of the essence!" You Feng said nothing more. He reached out, took Alexis's hand, and led her outside.
Alexis's face flushed red, but she didn't struggle. She quickly followed him.
In the forest behind the academy, they reached a certain set of ruins.
"Why did you bring me here?" Alexis asked, confused. Professor Banner was missing; surely he hadn't been kidnapped and brought to a place like this?
"If I'm not mistaken, Professor Banner should be right here." You Feng held her slender hand firmly and didn't let go. Since she didn't seem to mind, he saw no reason to release her.
Alexis could clearly feel the warmth of You Feng's hand. For some reason, her heart began to race. To her, this situation felt almost like a fairy tale.
"You..." Alexis started to speak, a hint of embarrassment on her face.
"Don't mind it. It's dark in here. Holding hands makes it easier to respond to any situation," You Feng said quickly, as if sensing what she was about to say.
"I understand..." Alexis blinked and did not pursue the matter further.
As they ventured deeper into the ruins, the surroundings became increasingly eerie. Alexis took out a flashlight to illuminate the path. Soon, they discovered an area filled with wine barrels, and right next to them sat a coffin.
"Ah!" Alexis couldn't help but gasp when the light hit the coffin, and she instinctively lunged into You Feng's arms.
The feeling of her soft, fragrant form made You Feng pause for a heartbeat before he put his arm around her to comfort her. "It's just a coffin..."
Inwardly, however, he thought, This must be the place.
Once Alexis composed herself, she realized she was clinging to You Feng. She hurriedly pulled away. Although she was terrified of the coffin, the initial shock had passed, and she could now endure it.
"Stay here. Don't go anywhere," You Feng instructed, preparing to move forward.
"Don't leave me!" Alexis shook her head, unwilling to let go of his hand. Being in this gloomy, terrifying place was already pushing her limits. You Feng's hand was her only source of security; she couldn't imagine how much she would panic if he let go.
You Feng looked at her for a long moment before nodding. "Alright, we'll go together."
To be honest, Alexis usually showed a very strong, independent side. You Feng had never seen her like this before. Perhaps it was because she finally had someone she could truly rely on.
However, the atmosphere here was indeed frightening. Seeing a coffin in the anime was one thing, but experiencing it in person was a completely different sensation.
You Feng walked up to the coffin and used his strength to push the lid aside.
Creeeeeak
As the lid slid off, a layer of dust billowed up, making them both cough. Alexis looked inside, her pupils suddenly shrinking as she let out a piercing scream.
"Ah!! It's Professor Banner!!" Alexis's eyes trembled with shock. she covered her mouth with her hands, her entire body shaking with horror.
You Feng looked down. Professor Banner had already turned into a mummified corpse.
"How is this possible... How could Professor Banner have become a mummy?" Alexis cried out, unable to suppress the shock in her heart.
