Chapter 7 - Misty Ruin

All mentioned features and skills will be listed below.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Inside was truly a misty ruin. Crumbling stone walls surrounded everything. Bushes and grass had grown on the ground. The fog was so thick that it was impossible to see more than a few meters ahead.

"Let's be careful," said Sude. "The mist will make it hard to spot creatures."

"You're right, we should establish a team formation right away," said Emir.

"Shouldn't we have done this before entering?" said Elif.

"It'll be fine. Boran, you'll go in front, and if they attack you, block them. I'll follow behind you, and while you hold the creatures, I'll take them down from the sides. Meanwhile, Elif and Halil will try to stop any creatures they can see from reaching you. If your health points get too low, Sude will heal you."

Everyone nodded in agreement; it seemed like a logical strategy.

"Let's not forget to add you to the team, Boran."

A window appeared in front of Boran's eyes.

[Emir (Berserker) wants to invite you to their team.]

Without making it obvious to anyone, he accepted with his hand behind his shield. With his acceptance, he could now see everyone's name, health, and mana in the corner of his vision.

"By the way, how much mana does your ability to draw creatures cost?"

"Where do we look at those?"

"You should be able to open it by thinking about it."

Boran tried thinking but nothing happened. He couldn't control the system with his thoughts; he needed to touch it. But when there was nothing in front of him, what could he touch?

"Could you try trading your sword with me? I won't accept it."

"Alright..."

After the notification window appeared, he declined from behind his shield. Thanks to this, the inventory section had opened. He entered the Skills section right next to the inventory and scrolled down.

"The Taunt ability doesn't seem to cost any mana. Because nothing is written next to it. That means it doesn't require mana, right?"

"Most likely. My Concentrated Magic ability doesn't show mana cost either," said Elif.

"It says I can draw nearby creatures to me for 6 seconds, every 15 seconds. So I only leave a 9-second gap. During this time, creatures might pull away from me. By the way, what creatures are here?"

"There must be some courage that comes with the Tank class. Did you come without knowing what we'd be facing?" said Elif.

"How did you all learn about it?"

"Before entering the gateway, if you look at it and think 'Preview,' you can see the possible creatures and item drops. It also shows the exit condition, which becomes our mission," said Sude. "But it doesn't work once you've entered. You should check everything before going in."

"I'll be careful next time. Could you give me a summary for now?"

"There are giant rats, giant bats, and wolves here. Our mission is to find and destroy the nests of the giant rats and bats. We'll earn experience points from the creatures we kill, and these points will be shared among party members. With the rewards from the missions, it's very likely everyone will reach level 2. We'll also definitely get a chest as a reward. The items inside will certainly be better than what we have now," Halil answered.

"What if something bad happens and we want to leave early?"

"If you press the emergency exit button, you can return to the Hub without any rewards."

"I see. Thanks."

"If everything's clear, let's get in formation team!" said Emir.

They began moving through the ruins. Boran in front, followed by Emir, Halil and Elif, and finally Sude. Everyone had drawn their weapons and was on alert for possible dangers.

"Stop! I sensed movement," called out Halil, drawing his bow and aiming into the mist.

At that moment, a pair of red eyes emerged from the mist and lunged forward. It was a dog-sized giant rat. But thanks to Halil's quick reflexes, it died instantly from an arrow to the head.

"Well done Halil! How did you know there was a rat there?"

"My passive ability called Hunter's Instincts."

"That's a very useful ability, good choice," said Emir.

"Do your arrows run out?" asked Boran.

"What do you mean?" Halil replied.

"Your arrows... do they decrease when you use them?"

"No, no. They're unlimited. You get arrows based on the bow you have."

"That's awesome."

After a ten-minute walk, they came upon a large area. The mist was lighter here.

"They're around... About fifteen of them."

"There are many, but we can handle it! Boran, get in front of the others, don't let them get close!"

"Understood!" said Boran joyfully. Finally, he would be able to do something.

Nine rats rushed out of the mist to attack. They were running towards them. Halil released his drawn bow and killed a rat.

A purple orb shot from Elif's hand hit one of the rats, turning half of it to ash.

Emir lunged forward and swung his sword horizontally at the necks of the two lead rats. But the last rat managed to land one hit on him. The moment Sude saw this, she cast a spell from afar that instantly healed Emir's wound.

Halil's second arrow was aflame. As it fell among the rats, it exploded and five rats took heavy blast damage.

Five magical energies shot from Elif's hands and struck each rat.

"Great job team! Well done!" shouted Emir.

"Which ability did you use like that?" asked Elif.

"My Explosive Arrow ability. It only costs two mana and I have twenty mana, so I can use it nine more times. Plus, its damage is really good. What was that ability of yours that killed the rats?" said Halil.

"Magic Missiles. I can shoot five magic bolts at once. I can send them to any targets I want," said Elif.

"That's an amazing finishing move. Our team is great, this mission will be child's play! Also Emir, you said there were fifteen of them, we only killed nine rats, where are the others?"

"They ran away when you cut the rats with your sword."

"Haha... you don't need to flatter me, really."

"It's not flattery, I'm serious. I think we all have some kind of passive fear ability. I don't know why else they would run away."

"Strange thing. Thanks Sude, by the way, for the healing."

Sude just nodded her head, embarrassed.

"I'm useless," Boran thought to himself. "They can kill the creatures before they even reach us, why would they need a tank? Maybe I can be useful if we encounter a boss or something."
