“My name is Noa Leonard,” I said, introducing myself with a self-assured grin. “It looks like I left my identification card at home, but I believe the name should ring a bell.”
I sent out a silent thank you to Kyle for allowing me to use his surname as I pleased. At least my intentions this time were noble—unlike when Miu and I had tried to evade a rather hefty ice cream bill. It was common knowledge that the Leonard family held high status within the empire, and it would be almost unheard of for someone to invoke their name falsely. Even if someone did doubt my association with the Leonards, any inquiry sent to the Duke’s estate would eventually find its way to Kyle’s desk. With this in mind, the sour expression that came over the clerk’s face after hearing my name threw me for a loop.
“Madam, might I inquire as to your connection with the gentleman who visited recently?” he probed suspiciously.
