To Archmaster Edictus, Scabia Tower.
Master:
If this letter has reached your hands, it means that the mages you entrusted to me for this mission managed to return alive. I wish I could tell you that everything went according to plan, but I imagine you have already read the reports from Captain Lena or Commander Climberland.
The mission, at least in its primary objective, was accomplished. However, the price was high. As my companions have probably told you, I was forced to use the magic you forbade me. I know what breaking that order means, but I did so knowing there was no other option. I chose the risk to myself over the mission's failure. If I was sent there, it was to achieve victory, not to preserve my life.
The aftermath of the ancient magic prevents me from returning to Scabia for the moment. My mana well is exhausted, and my body has suffered considerable damage. Some wounds prevent me from walking without assistance, and arcane fatigue remains latent. I beg you to allow me to stay in Glacius until I regain enough strength to travel.
Extend my apologies to Her Majesty. Although the objective was achieved, I cannot help but feel that I have failed.
P.S.: Captain Lena has been generous in offering me lodging in her home. She has treated me with a consideration I did not expect. I hope I can, at least, reciprocate her kindness.
With respect,
Dyan Halvest
Acting Magister – Scabia
