Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: The Disappearance.

It turned out that Lina disappeared several days after Dante discovered she had a superpower—just like him. Even more terrifying was that everyone around had completely forgotten about her existence and moved on like nothing had ever happened—except for him.

After school was over, Dante returned home—or more precisely, to the student dormitory provided for free by the government when he turned five years old.

Sitting at his desk, he buried his face in his hands, still shaken by panic.

'What's wrong? Where's Lina? Where did she go? Why does no one remember her?'

After a while, he calmed down and returned to his usual introspective self, starting to think things through.

'First things first… there are two, maybe three possibilities for Lina's disappearance.'

Number one: she got kidnapped. But that didn't explain why everyone had forgotten about her. It must be someone with a superpower—an insanely powerful one—that could erase people's memories.

But Dante hadn't forgotten her. So the second possibility might involve him.

'Maybe if I see someone with a superpower, that person disappears… but that's a dumb possibility.'

Number three…

'Ugh, I don't know. Maybe I'm just overthinking. Maybe it's all just an illusion. I'll go check for clues again tomorrow.'

The next day, Dante continued investigating, asking around for anything that might help. He was naturally curious—maybe too curious. Perhaps it was because he'd lived a peaceful life and grown bored. Regardless, he kept digging, unaware of how dangerous it might become. He would keep going until he got bored—or until something happened.

And something did.

As Dante sat alone on the rooftop of the school building, a student with glasses appeared seemingly out of nowhere and approached him.

"Oh, Dante. You're the one who asked about Lina."

Dante looked at the boy—about his age—and gave him a curious stare.

"Yeah, that's me. You know her? Wait—who are you?"

The boy standing before him had a familiar face, though Dante couldn't remember his name. Maybe from another class. Dante had a good memory for faces, just not names. This guy was the quiet type, almost invisible. Of course Dante didn't know him well—he tended to avoid people.

"Hi, I'm Joseph. Nice to meet you."

Joseph stood there, smiling slightly.

"Uh, about Lina—you know her?" Dante asked, trying to remain calm.

"Yes, of course. She was the top student in our class."

Dante stood up and approached Joseph, eyes sharp.

"Exactly what happened to her? Why do you remember her?"

"Remember? So, you noticed that too, huh? Heh. Oh, I get it—you've been asking around, right? And you found out about her disappearance, along with the fact that everyone else forgot. Now, where should I start... You probably have a superpower too, right? Which one—telekinesis, mind reading, psychic control, or—"

Dante raised his hand to stop him, signaling for silence as he began thinking again.

'Talk about powers… I can't read his mind. Does that mean he has a power too? Oh right—I couldn't read Lina's mind when I first met her either. If that's the case…'

"My power is mind reading. Though… it doesn't work on you," Dante admitted.

He was an honest person. He didn't know the consequences of revealing his power, but if it felt necessary, he'd just do it.

"Well, Dante, I'm here to invite you to a secret supernatural club. Come on, we can talk about everything later."

Joseph pulled out a card and handed it to Dante.

On the weekend night, Dante closed his door and stepped outside. In his pocket was the card Joseph had given him, along with the address to the secret club. He felt both nervous and excited—not knowing what awaited him. Was this connected to Lina's disappearance? Or was he finally going to get answers?

Joseph had promised him answers, but Dante couldn't shake the uneasy feeling—what if he just vanished too, like Lina?

He considered calling the cops, but quickly dismissed the idea.

'I have a mind-reading power… involving the authorities would just mess things up.'

So, he let his instincts take over and decided to go.

The club's location was beneath a tall building. There was a hidden passageway, and at the end of it, a slot for the card. Once he inserted it, the door slid open.

A female student stood behind the door and silently guided him further inside.

As they walked through long corridors, Dante noticed others coming from different paths. They were all students—probably—but the strange thing was, he couldn't read any of their minds.

'So this is the world of the supernatural?'

A chilling thought struck him, shaking his core.

'All these people… they all have superpowers?'

They reached a large room, where about twenty people were already gathered. He assumed they all had powers—based on the fact that he couldn't read any of them.

A man stood on a platform at the front of the room, addressing the crowd.

His name was Jeremy.

Once everyone had settled in, Jeremy began to explain everything.

It turned out that in this world, some people awakened superpowers—but nearly all of them were related to the mind: mind reading, telekinesis, enhanced memory, psychic suggestion, and similar abilities. That was the entire foundation of the supernatural world.

People might expect powers like fire control, ice manipulation, or turning into a metal giant—but none of that existed. Just mind-based abilities.

And every year, some people with powers mysteriously vanished.

Then came the shocking truth.

"I believe they're being kidnapped by the government," Jeremy said bluntly, dropping a truth bomb that silenced the room.

Everyone began whispering and murmuring.

"No way."

"That's impossible."

"I knew it…"

"No wonder. That must be the truth."

After a moment, one person raised their hand.

"Hey, Mr. Jeremy, that sounds fake. Why are you saying this? Do you have any proof?"

Jeremy looked at the person, smiled slightly, and replied—
