Chapter 2 - A handsome Husband

Su Xiao looked at the man whose unconsciousness could not hide his aura. His coldness seemed innate and noble. He was a very handsome man whose appearance amazed Su Xiao and fit her standards of a man. He was like unsheathed sword lying dormant but waiting to attack.

Her gaze shifted to his height and broad shoulders and she felt more amazed at his well proportioned body. He was lean now probably due to hunger and illness. Averting her gaze she shifted her attention to his legs which was a bloody mess. She remembered that he was beaten severely and thrown into the group of exiles with no treatment which worsened his condition. It was obvious they wanted him dead and a painful one at that.

Before the apocalypse descended she was a doctor specializing in western and modern medicine so she knew how to handle his injury. She tore his ragged clothes and began scraping off the bloody flesh with a scalpel. Mu Wei was conscious but not completely as he couldn't open his eyes.He was in so much pain that his back was drenched in sweat. Someone was doing something to his legs but he couldn't tell whom. After what seemed like forever he felt someone feeding him something and instinctively refused.

"Mu Wei you have to take this"

On hearing the woman's voice he felt killing intent burst out from his body making Su Xiao shudder in fright. It was because of this woman that he was in this condition and she dared to mess with his legs.

Su Xiao knowing the man's thoughts could only resort to threats to make him take the pill.

"Mu Wei you better take this and get better or I'm going to sell your children and run away"

'You dare'

He could only roar in his mind but couldn't say anything. Weighing the situation he reluctantly swallowed the pill. Su Xiao seeing he was cooperating felt relieved and feed him some water before the nutrient fluid.

"After taking this pill you should be able to wake up after three days"

Knowing that the man could hear she bandaged the wound before sitting down. She was so tired and sleepy but couldn't sleep. Calling the children together she made a bed from the dried branches and made them lie on it placing Mu Wei at the middle at the kids by the side. The children already tired from the days stress quickly feel asleep.

It was almost dark and a lot of people were going to sleep. Mu Wei listened to the children breathing and felt relieved. Straining his ear he tried to tell what the woman was doing and discovered she was making something with wood but he couldn't tell what it was. Soon he felt drowsiness hit him and as much as he resisted he was eventually pulled to sleep.

Su Xiao glanced at the sleeping people and felt her heart warm. The apocalypse era was dangerous so she dared not entertain thought of marriage or having children but here she was. Children and a husband which made her feel complete. She swore to protect them and not let anything happen to them especially the kids. She continued making a wooden cart from the trees scattered around for Mu Wei.

It was not convinent to carry him around to avoid pulling at his injuries so the ox cart was best. Seeing Mu Chen shiver she took out the heat pad and paste it on them. It was very tiny that no one would notice so she felt relieved. They fell asleep more without tossing around. She stood up and made her way to the place where she woke up and looked around then entered her space and making use of nails she made a sturdy cart enough for five people to enter comfortably and added wheels to make it easier to push. Satisfied with her work and seeing that it was not different from the one of this era,she pushed it back to the camp attracting envious and dangerous glances.

She reached their resting point and took out an old looking cloth she had salvaged during the apocalypse and spread on the cart before carrying Mu Wei and the kids in the cart and then lying down. She gazed at the sky in silence and the only sound heard was the breathing of people asleep and the crackling of fire. Thinking of the original host memories she remembered some things. The kids were four year old this year meaning she was married for four years.

The reason they exilled was partly due to her. She was a concubine daughter whose mother died at child birth and was maltreated by the legitimate children. She happened to see Mu Wei who was the commander of the army troop of the current dynasty of Chu she was in and fell in love with him. Knowing that he was her only chance to escape this hellish home she devised a plan to marry him.

One day as he visited their house she drugged him and slept with him leaving him no choice to marry her. She became pregnant afterwards and gave birth to the twins. Mu Wei still did not love her so she vented her frustration on the children hitting and scolding them which made their relationship further estranged. Mu Wei's enemies saw the opportunity and coaxed her into bringing his seal which she foolishly did and with that they framed him for attempting rebellion and exilled them to the wilderness.

Su Xiao couldn't help but sigh at their tragic story being dragged down by such a woman. After thinking she fell asleep to get more energy to continue their journey tomorrow while planning what to do for food.

Early the next morning she was awakened by bailiffs shouting and whipping people to start moving. The slightly slower ones were whipped and others hastened up.She woke the kids up and gave them the jujube fruit she had brought out and asked them to eat it in a hushed tone.

"Here, you both eat it. Mother saved it for you both last night to eat. It's from the old man so hurry and drink water so we can continue".

The children nodded obediently and ate the jujube fruit cautiously before having some water. Su Xiao took the opportunity to undress his wound and re-apply the medicine before bandaging it again.
