Chapter 20 - Chapter 20: Time for a New Hero

The warm scent of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies filled the Parker household. Adrian and Peter sat at the kitchen table, mouths full and faces glowing.

"These cookies are amazing, Aunt May," Adrian said with a big smile, chewing joyfully.

"Yeah, Aunt May's cookies are the best," Peter agreed, speaking through a mouthful of gooey chocolate.

"Boys, slow down!" Aunt May chuckled as she placed another batch onto the tray. "There's plenty more. No need to inhale them."

The two gave sheepish nods, still munching with cookie crumbs dusting their shirts. As they savored the treats, Peter glanced at Adrian.

"Hey, we should go grab some parts for our project."

"Yeah," Adrian replied. "If we want this to turn out great, we'll need the right stuff."

As the boys planned, Aunt May and Uncle Ben stood by the kitchen doorway, sharing a quiet moment.

"It's nice seeing Peter with a friend," Aunt May said, watching them with a soft smile. "He's been through so much… It's good for him."

Ben nodded. "That Adrian kid's solid. Polite. Smart. You can tell he's got something special."

The boys stood up, brushing crumbs off their shirts.

"We'll be back later!" Peter called.

"Be safe, you two. Dinner's at seven," Aunt May reminded.

As they closed the door behind them, Ben smiled and muttered, "Kids grow up so fast."

The Junkyard Heist

"Are you sure we'll find what we need here?" Adrian asked, eyeing the rusted gates.

"Absolutely," Peter said confidently. "This place is a gold mine. I built your training dummy from here. We just need to be sneaky."

Under cover of dusk, they weaved through piles of discarded electronics and metal. Peter's "trash-sense" guided them to broken Kevlar vests, old tools, reinforced fabrics, and a beat-up grappling hook base module.

Peter: "Ooooh, jackpot!"

Adrian: "That's literally a car battery, Peter."

They laughed—until a flashlight beam swept their way.

"HEY! Who's there?!"

"Run!" Peter shouted.

Without hesitation, Adrian grabbed Peter, slung him over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes, and took off sprinting with their haul.

One Week Later: Project Hero Suit Begins

Day 1: Gathering and Planning Peter laid out the haul in the garage.

Peter: "So…what kind of suit are we thinking?"

Adrian: "Light armor. Flexible. Durable. I want to move freely and not break my hands punching metal."

Peter: "But hear me out: aerodynamic design, slick, tight. Think cool, like a ninja spy suit."

Adrian: "Peter, I can float. Falling isn't the problem. Getting slammed into a wall is."

Peter: "Come on! Form-fitting looks cool!"

Adrian: "You want me to wear full spandex. I'll pass."

The day ended with blueprints halfway between Peter's flash and Adrian's practicality.

Day 2: Frame and Padding

They stitched reinforced padding onto a black fiber base. Peter's initial prototype had Adrian unable to kneel.

Adrian: "I feel like a stiff action figure."

Peter: "Okay, maybe too much thigh armor. I'll fix it."

The final version had foam-padded joints, red accent lining, and breathability vents.

Day 3: Tech Assembly

They installed:

Smoke Blaster Gauntlets: Fire a burst of dense pink smoke—enough to obscure a street corner.

Auto-Grappling Hook: Compact and wrist-mounted, it enabled building-to-building movement in tandem with Float.

Voice Modulator: Deepens Adrian's voice to mask identity.

Earpiece Comm: Connects directly to Peter's laptop. Peter becomes the "man in the chair."

Shock Pulse Emitters: Hidden in the forearms—capable of non-lethal enemy takedown.

Peter: "It's basically if Batman and a candy store had a baby."

Adrian: "So that's why my smoke smells like strawberries."

Day 4: Testing & Tumbles

Peter arranged cardboard thugs in the alley. Adrian tested Smoke Screen. A pink cloud engulfed him.

Peter: "Whoa. That's…a lot."

Adrian: "It's blinding. Smells like bubblegum."

He tried the grappling hook. It fired—and slammed him straight into a dumpster.

Peter (laughing): "Okay, it works, but maybe calibrate it below launch velocity."

Day 5: Final Touches & Banter

Peter: "We need to give it a name."

Adrian: "No."

Peter: "Come on! How about The Vanisher?"

Adrian: "That sounds like a toilet brand."

Peter: "What about Spectacle?"

Adrian: "Never say that again."

Peter: "Fine. Suit doesn't need a name. How about you? You got a hero name yet?"

Adrian: "I'll let the streets decide."

Day 6: Identity Lock

The finished suit stood on the mannequin.

Sleek black base with red trim

Reinforced gloves with foam knuckles

Compact tech modules

Integrated voice modulator and grappling hook

Peter: "So? What do you think?"

Adrian: "I feel like a tactical power ranger."

Peter: "That's the goal!"

Adrian: "It's functional. I like the padded joints. No more cracked knuckles."

Peter: "Yeah, yeah. But admit it. It looks cool too."

Adrian: "It's bearable."

10:00 PM – First Night Out

Adrian stood on the edge of a skyscraper, the city below alive with light and movement. His communicator buzzed.

Peter: "Alright, Adrian. You ready for your first night on the job?"

Adrian smirked behind the modulated mask. "I was born ready."

He took a running start, then backflipped off the building, disappearing into the night.

Adrian (to himself): "Let's see what the world has in store for me."
