Ficool

Chapter 6 - Chapter 6

I wake up groggy the next morning. My dream was very unsettling. Was she walking me through her story? Or was it my brain trying to make one up?

I took my coffee and headed to the office to meet Adam, my colleague. Yesterday, he was in charge of visiting Jason Wilde, to learn more about Sarah's work life.

"Something is not right" was his greeting.

"Well, that's what I've been thinking since I saw the scene, I'm glad we are on the same page. But, pray tell, what makes you think that?"

"She seemed to be smart and good at what she did. A fast learner too. But the way people spoke," he thought out loud, "it's like they are happy she's gone!"

Could it be that my dream was not just that? Could it be that I was living part of her life?

Whatever that may be, we need to pay them another visit, I decided. Perhaps take a look at her records there?

We entered what seems to be a ten story building, to a very, VERY spacious reception, and stepped to the polished blond sitting behind the desk, asking for Sarah's office. We were brought to what seemed like a haunted tiny cubicle, it's like nobody ever sat there! The records were brought to us.

By checking them, I saw her performance indicators were superb. Well, that explains the jelous plotting.

That is until the last few months. They fell drastically and all of a sudden. How did she keep her job with that performance?! That doesn't sound right, with my knowledge of how large corporations work.

"Jack White! Just the one we'd want on Sarah's case. I hope we have news?" says the pepper-haired man from my dream, standing at the corner, cross armed and leaning on the wall.

"Jack Brown. And you are?"

"Jason Wilde, CEO to Wilde enterprises. My apologies for the colour mix-up." he laughed sheepishly.

What a first impression. Huh!

"Do you mind giving us a few moments of your time? We have a few questions for you."

"Sure. Though I said everything I know to Adam, here, just yesterday." His tone hid something behind it, but I cannot decide what it is, yet.

We enter his office, the one I visited in my dream. Or did it visit me?! Hmm...

I was pulled back to the present when he offered us some refreshments, while staring into space. That's odd!

"I have no idea how to sort out my day now, work or personal." He said, as if he can read my mind. "Sarah... she was a gem. I don't think I want to replace her. Let alone, I can't! There is simply no one like her. Guess I am still waiting for her to step through that door." he smiles sadly.

Guess the door is actually here!

"Can you tell us more about her?"

"What can I say? She was always scribbling down." he laughed. "But she knew what I needed without being asked. Researched competitors, had all required information whenever I had a meeting, my agenda was spotless, my phone calls handled (between the scribbles, I guess), even my atire was perfectly handled for any meeting, anywhere. Whenever I got stuck trying to find the right decision, she would pop up with an idea, so insane that it's briliant. She never failed me."

Until a few months ago. But that, he didn't say.

"How about her coworkers?"

"I can't say she had friends here, kinda kept to herself. Well, maybe except her boyfriend!" He added thoughtfully. "But she always wore the brightest smile, to light up the room." he murmered the last part, smiling sadly. It's like he can see her, smiling!

As we left the office, we were frustrated that it was a dead end.

We headed back to the reception to ask for Christian Wayne.

A handsome young man, well-built, dark blond, about 6 foot 4, showed up smiling brightly, with slightly messed up hair, extending his hand to shake. I noticed him in a corner, making out with a red-haired employee.

That was fast for "quite the love story"!
