Chapter 55 - Chapter 55: Flower Language: Idealism

There was no special meaning behind Yohan giving Nezuko the konpeitō candy—it was simply a casual gesture. But if something as small as this could bring happiness to the girl, then why not?

As a transmigrator, Yohan had always held firm to one belief: since he had arrived in the world of Demon Slayer, he might not be able to change the world itself—but at the very least, he would do everything in his power to ensure those he believed deserved happiness could have a good ending.

After all, isn't that what people live for? The pursuit of joy.

...

Morning light streamed in through the cracks of the window, but Yohan was still groggy as he was dragged up by Tanjiro.

"Tanjiro... you wake up way too early..." Yohan mumbled with a wide yawn.

"Haha, sorry, Yohan. I've just always been an early riser," Tanjiro said a bit sheepishly, feeling guilty for waking his guest so soon.

Years of climbing mountains and digging coal had carved this routine deep into his bones. Today, he just wanted to help Yohan find that mysterious flower as early as possible.

As the eldest son of the family, Tanjiro was kind, warm-hearted, and humble—but there was a deeply stubborn streak in him too. He could never allow himself to be indebted to someone—be it money or favor.

"Wait, Brother! Yohan, wait for me too!"

Nezuko had come running out as well, joining them on the trail. When she heard that Yohan was looking for a flower, she figured that an extra pair of hands could only help.

"The flower blooms in small clusters," Yohan explained as they climbed, "and the color is a sort of greenish blue—a pale bluish-green."

"It only blooms during the daytime."

With that information in mind, their search officially began.

Tanjiro made the best of his mountain upbringing, leading the way with practiced ease. He guided Yohan and Nezuko across trails and ridges, through bushes and along steep slopes, scanning every patch of flora they passed.

"It's... really hard to find, huh," Nezuko panted lightly.

"Are you sure the blooming time is now?" Tanjiro asked, wiping sweat from his brow.

They had already been searching for most of the morning, yet hadn't seen even a trace of the flower.

"Yes," Yohan replied firmly. "Someone told me I needed to arrive in this area within these two days—so the blooming window must be right now."

"If that's the case, then we just keep looking!" Tanjiro declared, ever the optimist.

By now, the sun was climbing high into the sky, and even deep in the forest, the air was beginning to warm. The search had been long and exhausting.

"Why don't we take a break?" Yohan suggested. He glanced at Tanjiro, who was dripping with sweat from their relentless hunt.

"Yeah, you're right," Tanjiro agreed with a grin. "A little rest won't hurt."

"Blue... clustered flowers..." Nezuko murmured to herself quietly off to the side, standing near a tree. She seemed lost in thought.

Then, all of a sudden, she shouted, "I REMEMBERED!"

Yohan and Tanjiro jolted upright in surprise, nearly jumping out of their skin.

"W-what is it, Nezuko?!" Tanjiro rushed over.

"Brother! I know where Yohan's flower is!"

"When I made that medicine for your bruises before—remember? I used the rhizome of that flower!"

Nezuko beamed with excitement. She'd been racking her brain ever since hearing Yohan describe the flower, and finally, the memory had clicked into place.

"You know where it is?" Tanjiro asked, eyes wide.

"Yes!" she nodded vigorously.

"Then let's go right now!" Tanjiro practically bounced with excitement. He hadn't expected that his little sister would be the one to save the day.

Yohan was delighted too—but a question still lingered in his mind: The blue spider lily... used for treating bruises?

With Nezuko leading the way, the trio hiked around the back of the Kamado household, up a slope behind the house. When they reached the crest and looked ahead, all three of them froze.

A wave of greenish-blue stretched before them like a sea of color, carpeting the forest floor in every direction.

Cluster after cluster of the flowers Nezuko had described bloomed in unison—almost like they were deliberately decorating the mountainside.

"Yohan, this flower is called Ajisai here—hydrangea," Nezuko said softly. "It symbolizes hope... and also the inseparable bond between family members. The colors change depending on the soil's pH."

Yohan stepped slowly into the flower field, breath catching in his throat. Could it really be that the blue spider lily—the legendary flower—was here, and in such abundance?

He plucked one carefully, preparing to store it away.

But... nothing happened.

No sound. No system notification.

"System," Yohan said under his breath. "Didn't I just pick a blue spider lily?"

[Ding!]

[Blue spider lily detected nearby. Host must harvest the correct flower immediately. System will store it once acquired.]

[Warning! Blue spider lily has an extremely short blooming period! Host must act quickly!]

Yohan's heart skipped a beat. The flower in his hand... wasn't the real thing.

It only resembled it.

He realized then that his earlier doubts were right. This was only a lookalike—likely the hydrangea Nezuko had mentioned. That's why the system hadn't responded.

With renewed urgency, he tossed the flower aside and sprinted away, scanning the area.

"Yohan? What's going on?" Nezuko blinked in confusion, watching him suddenly discard the flower and rush off. "Didn't we find it already?"

"I... I don't understand either," Tanjiro said, frowning.

It didn't take long.

As the sun reached its zenith in the sky, Yohan spotted it—nestled behind a large stone at the far edge of the hydrangea field.

Two flowers. Isolated, quiet, almost shy in their bloom.

They were utterly unlike the others.

Bathed in midday light, their petals shimmered with an ethereal sheen, their blue-green hue impossibly vivid, as though not entirely of this world.

He had found it.

The true blue spider lily.

[Congratulations! Host has obtained: Blue Spider Lily! Flower meaning: "Ideal."]
