Chapter 188 - Chapter 188: Need a Church

Everyone could clearly see the binding chains densely distributed around the hell passage constantly contracting.

As the portal continued shrinking, fewer demons rushed through, and those chains burning with solar fire continuously incinerated the creatures.

Under the restriction of countless shackles, the passage was finally sealed, with no more demons emerging.

Whoosh!

A whistling sound filled the air as a Resonator spun its body. The seemingly slender staff, like striking a watermelon, smashed large chunks of demon flesh to pieces.

"Looks like things went well here."

For these demons, the Resonator's behavior was pure slaughter. The staff's power was astonishing—whether small demons or intermediate ones, they all fell to a single strike.

"Come back!"

Raising his hand to recall all the Resonators and sea beasts, Marcus walked slowly toward Bruce and the others.

The two were now exhausted and gasping for breath. After Marcus had left, their energy supply had been cut off. They could only conserve their suit power as much as possible, relying on enhanced strength to kill demons. Only when facing powerful creatures would they unleash their weapons' full power.

Looking at the two exhausted fighters, Marcus nodded, then reached out to release Void Call.

Powerful suction appeared instantly, and scattered demons were forcibly pulled together. No matter how hard they struggled, they couldn't break free.

At that moment, everyone stopped.

They were stunned by the scene before them. The demons they could only fight with various exorcism supplies were so vulnerable before this warrior.

Just by raising his hand casually, he'd drawn all the demons together.

Under everyone's gaze, the Incinerator's energy was instantly released, transforming into blue flames that ignited all these demons.

Solar fire wasn't easy for demons to bear. They screamed and burned to death in the flames.

As the demons gradually dissipated, a black-red crystal appeared before him.

"This is what that guy used to transform the earth—it contains so much hell power."

Marcus, having just returned from hell, was all too familiar with that realm's energy. Once this crystal was activated, the surrounding environment would soon be transformed to match hell itself.

At that point, the enemy wouldn't need to maintain the hell passage—demons could easily cross through this area.

"Guess it's mine now!"

Marcus felt pleased and casually placed the crystal in his void storage.

He hadn't expected that just coming out to watch Bruce and Selina's performance would not only help eliminate demons but also net him this crystallized hell power.

Based on his knowledge of Aya Stars extraction, the energy in this crystal could at least allow him to forge a new Warframe.

After finishing this, Marcus looked again at the blocked hell passage, waving to release an energy wave that reinforced and further sealed the closed portal.

"Gordon, this thing will heal slowly, but until then, I suggest you protect this area." He spotted the cross in Harvey's hands. "Actually... it'd be nice to build a church here. At least demons are still afraid of these things."

Build a church?

Gordon stared blankly at the crack blocked by countless chains. Even if they built a church here, it probably wouldn't attract anyone, right?

Besides, everyone in Gotham already knew about this situation. Who would pay to build a church in a place where demons might burst out at any moment?

Although he thought this, Gordon still nodded and accepted Marcus's suggestion.

Earlier, they'd used various church supplies to block all the demons here—otherwise all of Gotham would have become a demon playground.

Since church items were effective, building a church to suppress this crack was essential.

Worst case, he'd talk to Gotham's wealthy and powerful. Presumably they didn't want to live in a city where demons could appear at any time, right?

Looking at the surrounding ruins, Gordon sighed.

"Well, the land for the church has been cleared!"

He turned to look at Harvey and the other officers, as well as the gangsters who'd come to help.

"I think everyone heard that we need to build a church here, and I'm sure you all know what that means.

No matter what happens between us in the future, I hope you'll never touch this place."

For these allies and the guys who might end up in prison later, Gordon could only pray silently.

But everyone understood the seriousness of his words. They'd all fought those demons and were well aware of the threat they posed.

If someone accidentally opened that passage and released those creatures, everything they'd worked so hard for would be lost.

Among them, Cobblepot was the most determined. His goal was to be Gotham's king, the one who ruled this city.

If the passage reopened, he wouldn't get to complete his ambition. So he'd secretly decided to make this place a restricted zone—anyone trying to break in would become his enemy.

"Actually, you don't need to worry. With these chains, it'll stay sealed. But it's still the same suggestion—you'd better build a church here!"

After speaking to Gordon and the others, Marcus turned to look at Bruce and Selina.

"You two have had enough excitement for one night. Time to head back."

With that, Marcus snapped his fingers, and a portal with blue sparks opened.

Under everyone's shocked gazes, Marcus led Bruce and Selina through the portal back to Wayne Manor.

Fortunately, with the demons as a warm-up, everyone's ability to accept the impossible was much stronger. They were just surprised by Marcus's magic—it didn't completely shatter their worldviews.

However, a Talon perched in the ruins was staring at the portal Marcus had created.

In the hall where many owl masks sat around a table, these people all fell silent as they watched the strange magic.

"Was that... actual magic?"

"It should be. Do you remember the materials our Court kept from World War I? The woman in those documents wasn't ordinary either."

Everyone in the Court of Owls was talking—this was their first time seeing real magic.

Although their acceptance had improved with demons as precedent, they were still shocked by magic that only existed in legends.

"Our Talons brought back demon tissue samples. Maybe we can master this kind of mystical power too," someone said quietly.

They'd obtained demon body parts. As long as they studied demon physiology thoroughly, they'd learn how to use that kind of magic.

"No, if we want to study demons, we need to collect additional resources—like spellbooks about demonology. But we don't have those kinds of channels," a crew-cut man said.

"No need to worry about that. Wayne Enterprises is in our hands."

A woman wearing an owl mask spoke up—she could mobilize Wayne Corporation's resources to collect magical texts.
