Chapter 5 - A slap to remember.

After a while of discussing amongst themselves, Radia finally agrees to take him to the Major Lieutenant of Nox Headquarters.

During their short journey there, Damien was able to pick up on a couple of things.

The workers that roamed the halls of the headquarters were different from the ones in the game he completed.

In fact, the whole place looked different.

Nox Headquarters had six main buildings, two training grounds, and a single academy for trainee soldiers.

Ro4 was the main building and where a lot of the important stuff takes place. It was right in the center of the other buildings, two times the size of the skyscraper Damien was used to seeing in his former world.

Inside the building was more lively than the chaos happening outside.

The original story didn't have all these; Nox was one of, if not the weakest Headquarters throughout the whole apocalypse. The only way they survived for as long as they did was because the MC finally stepped in to help.

And even then, they still died.

"We are here."

Radia stood in front of the grey metal door with no doorknob.

Damien patiently waited behind, avoiding the gazes of the people that walked by.

Since mostly women worked at the site, seeing Damien, a man, walking towards the Major's room with Radia, the head of the medical department, quickly drew their attention.

"Girl, he's hot, right?"

"Yes~ I wonder if he's here to enroll."

"Ah~ he just looked at me."

'They're a lively bunch.'

Radia, on the other hand, reached into her cleavage and pulled out an ID card.

Right after, she inserted it into a slot on the wall, and just when she was about to pull it out, she gave Damien a side glance.

"Listen, advice before you step in. The Major can be a bit… loose when it comes to men. Do endure her, or things will only end up difficult for you."

'I know.'

Like that, the door opened, and both Radia and Damien walked in.

Inside the Lieutenant's office was a different world from the outside.

The first thing to catch Damien's attention was the giant screen at the front of the room. On it was information about students who were close to completing their years in the academy and were waiting to know their fate.

Slowly, his eyes drifted to the huge desk a short distance away from him, and then to the woman behind it.

She had long wine-colored hair and wore a green shirt, leaving enough buttons loose to battle cleavage size with Radia.

Her beauty was not something one could ignore so easily, and the same applied to the scowl on her face when she saw Damien.

There were about two other people in the office too, but they were too busy with their work to notice.

The Major spoke,

"Who the hell have you brought into my office?" her voice hitched with venom.

Radia giggled, walking deeper into the room to stand in front of the table.

"I assure you, he doesn't bite."

"That wasn't what I asked."

"My bad, hehe~"

Radia tossed a file on the table.

"This pretty much covers everything you need to know about him."

Taking one last look at Damien, the Major began to open the file to read what was written inside.

With every word she read, her eyes seemed to widen even more, until she couldn't take it anymore.

"Is this some kind of joke, Radia?! You expect me to believe he survived the H virus from the raptors?!"

She raised her head to make eye contact.

"Would I lie about something like this, Aria?"

The next second, Aria was throwing a piercing glance Damien's way.

Although he didn't seem to care as his attention was somewhere else.

'Where did they keep the crystal? I thought it was supposed to be at the center of all offices. Did they move it?'

"Hey, you…" Aria called out from where she was seated.

Damien turned his gaze her way.

'Aria Dowski, one of the most self-centered people I have ever run into in the game. Generally, she's a good person, but her attitude is very unbearable. She doesn't know how to take no for an answer. That said, I know how to counter that.'

"…the reports say you don't remember which sector you come from. I take it that hasn't returned."

"…Yeah."

"Okay then, are you willing to join the academy?"

"Absolutely not."

Aria didn't say anything; she simply stood up and began to walk towards him, the sound of her heels echoing throughout the room.

"Major, you should listen to him first…" Radia tried to speak, but with a raise of Aria's hand, she knew to keep quiet.

Now, Aria stood in front of Damien, with one hand on her waist.

"Perhaps you didn't hear me—"

"No. I heard you perfectly. I just rejected your offer."

Aria frowned,

"And what do you intend to do? Roam around my city without serving? Is that what you want to do here?"

"You should calm down. I don't intend to depend on anyone. I'll play my part; you don't need to worry."

It was clear Aria was already getting irritated.

She had been ruling the city for more than 12 years, and this was probably the first time anyone had rejected joining the academy.

It was part of life, something everyone else wanted.

"You intend to do that, how?" Aria moved closer.

"Give me a territory to the north, and watch me push the monsters back from breaking into the city."

"What?"

Damien was as calm as possible as he spoke,

"It's obvious you are doing a terrible job securing this city. The north is already falling, the west is now a barren land, and the other territories are slowly losing Resonators. I will do a better job; that will be my share for this sector."

Suddenly, Aria raised her hand and landed a slap on Damien.

Everyone in the room turned their attention towards their position.

"How dare you insult me like that?"

Not a second later, Damien slapped her right back, Aria stumbling backwards.

Radia's jaw dropped at the sight, and she wasn't the only one.

Aria was so surprised that she remained there, her hand on her face.
