Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: A Mother's Love

Maxi nestled deeper into his mother's embrace, his small frame sinking into her warmth. The garden's soft breeze carried the scent of blooming flowers, but Maxi barely noticed. His eyelids grew heavy as the rhythmic rise and fall of his mother's breathing lulled him into comfort—a comfort he had never known in his past life.

His smile lingered, but his mind wandered.

Memories from his old world stirred—fragments buried deep beneath the haze of reincarnation.

His mother…

He couldn't picture her face. Only flashes remained.

Ragged, unkempt hair falling over hollow eyes.

A cracked bottle raised high—

CRASH.

Pain.

Tiny arms outstretched, waiting for his incoming pain like an obedient dog waiting to be punished, not fighting back in the slightest.

Another flash—his legs trembling as he sat on the floor, waiting for the next bottle to hit.

Half of his childhood was spent with her. Half spent with his father—the one who loved him dearly. His father had been his guiding light, carrying the burden his mother refused to hold.

Yet now, in this new world, it was as if fate had flipped the script.

His father—the king—saw - him as nothing but pathetic.

But his mother… she loved him.

Maxi's fragile heart clung to that love—something he never thought he needed. But now, having it wrapped around him like a shield…

It felt right.

It felt like home.

For the first time in both lives, he belonged.

His small fingers clutched at the fabric of her maid dress, afraid that if he let go, this warmth would slip away.

The soft hum of her voice carried through the air, but Maxi was already falling deeper into sleep.

His mother smiled gently, brushing a few strands of brown hair from his face. She cradled him in her arms, standing up from the beach and making her way back toward the castle.

By the time they arrived, the sun had dipped lower in the sky. The once-destroyed wall outside Maxi's room stood perfectly repaired, the door still missing—a clear sign that Techxin's chaos had been cleaned up well slightly.

She sighed, shaking her head.

"That boy, how did his sweet mother give birth to him? Well, i guess that's the fault of that damed blood god that loves him so much, but still..."

Carefully, she tucked Maxi into bed, pulling the blankets over him and planting a soft kiss on his forehead.

Just as she was about to leave, she heard a faint whisper escape Maxi's lips.

"…Love you…"

Her heart melted.

She paused at the door, smiling as warmth filled her void-like eyes.

Then, just before she disappeared into the shadows, Maxi's voice—barely audible—murmured one last thing.

"More than my last mom."

A single tear slipped down her cheek.

Without a word, she vanished from sight—leaving Maxi wrapped in a warmth he had never known before.
