Chapter 222 - Chapter 222: Her Majesty the Queen (2)

As Raina recalled the vision, she described it to Skye.

At first, Skye felt the story was ridiculous, even laughable.

Flattery shouldn't be this far-fetched, right?

Even if one day she really did become queen of the Inhumans, right now how many Inhumans were there?

Even counting those outside Afterlife, the number wasn't even a thousand—where would an endless army come from?

And the rest was even more absurd. Alien armies? Mysterious alien kings on thrones? That sounded like something from a bad sci-fi movie.

But Raina's last words made Skye pause in doubt.

Because she said that behind Skye stood a mysterious figure too, one hidden in shadows, surrounded as if the stars themselves were orbiting him.

That might just be a metaphor or symbol.

But thinking carefully, didn't that sound a lot like Raymond?

Those countless shadows… weren't they his many sub-personalities?

Once this idea entered Skye's mind, she couldn't shake it off.

She had no psychic powers to test whether Raina was lying. But her instincts told her Raina was telling the truth.

Still, she didn't show whether she believed or doubted. Instead, she asked:

"Even if what you said is true, why didn't you tell my mother? Why meet me secretly like this?"

"I've been watching you these past days. You're definitely smart. Don't tell me you really don't see what your mother's true goal is…" Raina said with meaning.

"What do you mean?" Skye frowned.

"If you don't want to say it, then I'll be the bad one and say it." Raina smiled softly. "Your mother looks like she's working for the revival of the Inhumans, and yes, everyone sees her efforts…"

"But do you really think she's a selfless person?"

Her words made Skye's heart tremble.

Because what Raina said was the exact thought Skye had been avoiding these past days.

With her intelligence, there was no way she couldn't see through certain things.

She had simply chosen not to think about them—because the more she thought, the more it would hurt.

Now that Raina had voiced it, she could no longer run away from it.

She waved her hand. "Enough, stop talking. Let's end this here…"

But Raina ignored her and continued, "I've learned about you. Like me, you also grew up in an orphanage. We've both seen how cruel the world can be."

"Do you really think someone who didn't even care about her own daughter could be so noble?"

"You refuse to think about it because you don't want to admit the truth—that deep down, she doesn't care about you, and she doesn't care if the Inhumans rise again or not."

"Her true goal is to use the revival of the Inhumans to build her own power."

"She wants to be the queen of the Inhumans!"

"I told you to stop!" Skye suddenly lost control. She struck Raina in the chest with her hand.

Her newly awakened vibration powers lashed out wildly, blasting Raina across the floor!

The noise finally drew the attention of the others in Afterlife. They rushed over and quickly separated the two.

Raina coughed up blood, clearly injured.

But when Skye looked at her, she noticed Raina was still smiling—without a trace of anger.

That made Skye feel even more unsettled.

Soon after, Jiaying arrived, alerted by her people.

When she saw that Skye had injured Raina, her face darkened. Without a word, she ordered Skye into confinement to "reflect on her actions."

Skye didn't resist. Part of her wanted this time to calm down.

The next day.

Raina came alone to the confinement room to see Skye again.

"What are you here for? To laugh at me?" Skye asked weakly from the corner.

"I told you, I just want to know you better." Raina, still recovering from her injuries, smiled faintly.

"And the reason?" Skye pressed.

"Up until now, my visions have never been wrong. So I'm certain—someday you'll become just like in the vision, unstoppable." Raina sat down beside her.

"In that case, I'd rather choose the right person to follow. If I told your mother, with her hunger for power, I fear she would do something foolish."

"So I chose to keep it hidden and meet you in private."

"Yesterday's accident only confirmed it. I discovered another truth—your secrets, which your mother knows nothing about. That may be why you can become the queen of the Inhumans one day."

"My actions are nothing more than an investment. And since I know it's a sure win, why wouldn't I do it?"

After saying this, Raina fell silent, waiting for Skye's reply.

Skye stayed quiet for a long time.

Finally, she asked, "You really believe in me that much?"

"Don't get me wrong—I'm not betting on you. I'm betting on my power." Raina shrugged.

"You said the future me is nothing like I am now. Was I… strong?" Skye asked again.

"I don't know the details. But in those visions, you were terrifyingly powerful. With a single strike, you could even break the space itself." Raina recalled softly.

Her words reminded Skye of what Professor X's sub-personality had once told her.

Could her power really become that strong? Just like the boss had said?

That made Raina's words even more believable.

After a pause, Skye asked slowly, "So if I understand you right… you want to follow me?"

"Exactly." Raina nodded.

"Then stop asking questions. When the time is right, I'll tell you what you need to know. Until then, knowing too much will only hurt you." Skye had calmed down now, her tone flat.

She sounded colder than before.

But Raina only smiled faintly. "Understood, my queen. If you won't say, I won't ask."

"If my mother found out her most trusted follower had already betrayed her, she'd be very disappointed, don't you think?" Skye gave her a sharp glance.

Raina stayed quiet, only smiling. Then she added casually, "The leader isn't happy about what you did yesterday. If I'm right, she's planning something for you."

"Planning?" Skye frowned. "What do you mean?"

"I overheard Gordon once. She seems to want to marry you to Lincoln—make him her son-in-law." Raina said with a sly smile.

That made Skye's face darken again.

Lincoln was one of the strongest Inhumans in Afterlife, and one of Jiaying's most loyal men.

If what Raina said was true, then from the very beginning, Jiaying had planned to use her own daughter as a tool.

Whatever Jiaying's reasons, the result was the same—using Skye to bind Lincoln more tightly to her.

And to Skye, that thought was utterly disgusting.
