"Or, you go by yourself. I won't accompany you," Wong replied, lingering fear evident in his voice.
It was as if Doctor Strange's residence was some kind of terrifying place.
Alex Ray watched Wong like he was watching a show. It was obvious Wong was terrified by Strange's tricks.
"You don't know— the first time I went there, I was lucky to only fall into a portal trap and get sent straight to the bottom of the ocean. I nearly couldn't recover. Later, there were mirror dimensions, and even the Ring of Raggador—something Strange usually uses for defense—can be manipulated for who knows what!"
"The most outrageous thing is his energy bar actually came from underground!" Wong said, touching his backside with lingering fear.
"Then why don't you just use the portal to go there directly?" Alex thought to himself, rubbing his hands involuntarily as if already feeling the sting of incoming energy whips. He frowned, unable to bear watching what was about to happen.
Wong caught Alex's reaction from the side, a teasing smile spreading across his face. Raising his voice deliberately with a hint of provocation, he said, "Why don't you try it?"
Alex took a deep breath. He knew Wong wanted to laugh at him.
But he also recognized this as an opportunity to show his skill. Closing his eyes, he focused and traced a perfect circle in the air.
As his fingers danced, an invisible force gathered, and gradually a glowing portal materialized in front of him.
When the portal stabilized, Alex opened his eyes and saw Doctor Strange himself studying magic on the other side.
Strange sat in a room lined with ancient tomes and mystical instruments, flipping through a thick, archaic grimoire with intense focus.
"Impossible!" Wong exclaimed, nearly jumping from his chair at the sight.
When it came to portal magic, Wong believed no one was more proficient besides the Ancient One. Yet Alex had located Strange's real body so effortlessly, it defied his imagination.
"How is this possible?" Wong muttered, recalling his own failed attempts to locate Strange through portals—each ending in teleporting to incomprehensible places or nearly opening gates to hellish dimensions.
Since then, Wong never tried to locate Strange's true body again, relying instead on communication through Strange's magical clones.
Seeing Wong's stunned expression, Alex understood why.
He likely owed it to having the Space Stone that he could pinpoint Strange's true location so easily.
"This Strange is incredibly talented. In just a few months, he's mastered so many spells, even creating new magic of his own," Alex thought with admiration.
At that moment, Strange noticed the intrusion. He summoned the scarlet chains of Cytorak, five blazing red chains lashing out toward Alex.
He quickly cast a Seraphim Shield around himself for defense and opened a portal behind Alex—as if ready to escape should things go awry.
Alex and Wong exchanged stunned glances. This guy was way too cautious!
Alex caught the five scarlet chains with his bare body.
Afterwards, Strange eyed Alex cautiously.
His surprise at Alex's arrival faded as he noticed Alex's surprised expression. Realizing his reaction was excessive, Strange quickly dispelled the magic.
"How did you get in here, Alex?" Strange asked, feigning innocence and spreading his arms as if to welcome him. He showed no embarrassment over the earlier attack.
"This is how you welcome me? By unleashing your ultimate move right away!" Alex said, unhappy. In the original stories, Strange used the scarlet chains of Cytorak against Thanos.
Alex noticed Strange's proficiency casting the spell—it was clear he had done so multiple times.
"How come you seem like a different person these past few months? Where's the arrogant Strange from before?" Alex teased.
Strange was speechless for a moment, then conjured three cups of tea, handing them to Alex and Wong.
"Ever since the last battle in Hell's Kitchen, and after studying many books in Kamar-Taj, I've realized Earth isn't that safe. So I have to be cautious. You know, as a doctor, if I can't protect myself on the battlefield, how can I save others?" Strange said seriously.
Alex suddenly felt the logic behind Strange's words. As a doctor, self-preservation was essential before saving others.
He also understood why Strange had changed so much. Alex had never experienced a life-threatening accident, so he never abandoned his medical profession, which may have led Strange to develop this overly cautious personality.
But this was too cautious.
"What about your girlfriend Christine? Aren't you worried someone might snatch her away while you're away?" Alex asked, curious. After all, according to fixed time points, either Strange or Christine would have a car accident.
Strange smiled contemptuously at the question.
"Who told you I'm not with her? My clone is always with her. Not only that, my clone is working for me," Strange explained.
After hearing this, Alex called him a genius. "You're cheating on yourself."
Strange had found a way to do something different with his magic.
"Alright, you've been here long enough. I need your help. Come back to Hell's Kitchen with me," Alex said.
Strange shook his head.
"You don't know how dangerous it is out there. Christine recently had a car accident. Fortunately, my clones were with her and protected her well. I lost one clone, but at least Christine survived! It's incredibly dangerous. How about I send a few clones to accompany you?" Strange offered.
"Wow. The absolute time point was actually broken by Strange himself. This Archon Form is really useful! I'm afraid Strange never expected that what other versions of him could never change would be solved inadvertently by himself," Alex thought.
