Chapter 7 - 4 Minutes

The SDF Atlas was a heavy battle cruiser stationed at LHS-1095a for support and protection for allied forces operating on the planet. The system had been war torn for decades since the Atlas arrived seeing its fair shar of battles but it always persisted through the dimmest times.

Minute 1:

The Kyzon dreadnought dropped out of FTL sending out an EMP disabling the Atlas and multiple fighters the affected air space. The dreadnought immediately fired it's gigantic beam cannons that decimated the Atlas's shields as they rebooted its systems. The unaffected fighter swarmed the dreadnought as it too deployed dozens of fighters turning the space around them into a fierce battle ground.

The dreadnought fired hundreds of missiles after the small fighters, many of the missiles destroyed their targets but also created countless friendly fire cases. The beam cannons had finally overheated by this point and entered their cooling phase, this phase left the cannons relatively exposed as heat vents opened on the side of the turrets.

Minute 2:

The Atlas was finally back online and immediately opened fire with beam cannons, photon cannons and missile swarms as it's anti aircraft weapons blasted at the incoming threats. The dreadnought unleashed hell as blinding flashes shot from the colossal photon cannons, each shock shook the Atlas. The Atlas's shield had finally been taken down, its hull quickly began to become dented by the volley of attacks.

Minute 3:

The Atlas knew they weren't making it out of this combat encounter alive so it chose to attempt and take out the dreadnought along with it. It slowly started to glow brighter and brighter until it outshone the systems star itself. The dreadnoughts attacks grew fiercer as they saw what was about to happen, volley after volley of missiles, blast after blast of photon cannons before they too started to glow. A last ditch attempt at escape as they knew nothing could survive what's coming.

Minute 4:

In an instant an unbelievably bright flash filled the combat zone, the SDF Atlas sacrificed itself to destroy the Kyzon dreadnought in a sub-light speed jump.

All that was left was a colossal debris field orbiting the planet as occasional pieces of scrap lit up the sky in fireballs. In the distance around the other planets there was another similar flash, then another, then another, and another.
