The sewer walls trembled as Subject Zero advanced. Sparks danced across his skin like restless lightning. His eyes—black voids with flecks of glowing blue—locked onto Julian.
Reese coughed, groaning from where he'd crashed. Blood dripped from his temple. "Julian… don't… engage…"
Julian didn't listen. He stepped forward, shielding Eve's unconscious form with his own body.
"I don't care what they made you into," he spat. "You're not God. You're just another monster playing dress-up."
Subject Zero tilted his head, curiosity blooming where fury should have been.
"I was Julian once," he said, voice low. "Julian Lazarus. Your… brother."

Aboveground – Nexus Tower Ruins
A transmission hijacked every screen across the city, even as flames painted the skyline.
"To the people of District Seven… Nexus is falling."
The voice was Eve's. Pre-recorded.
"They lied. They used us. But we fight back. Today, the truth is louder than their weapons."
Cheers erupted from alleys, rooftops, and underground shelters. The resistance wasn't just surviving — it was igniting.
But Nexus had loosed something worse than bullets. And it bore the name Lazarus.

Sewer – The Confrontation
Julian staggered, shock slamming into him harder than any bullet ever had. "No… That's not possible."
"I was taken. Rebuilt. Programmed. But part of me—your voice—still echoes inside." Subject Zero stepped closer. "And it's tearing me apart."
Reese pushed himself up, dragging Eve with him. "Julian… either talk him down or shoot him down. We're out of time."
Subject Zero hesitated — a flicker of hesitation. Emotion. Humanity.
But then, behind him, Lucian's voice crackled through an implant embedded deep in his skull.
"Lazarus. Kill the signal. End them."
Zero's jaw clenched. He turned — not toward Julian, but toward the wall behind them. He punched through it, revealing a hidden tunnel.
"Run," he growled. "Before I change my mind."
Julian hesitated… then grabbed Eve and bolted after Reese.
Behind them, the echoes of Subject Zero's roar filled the tunnels.

Edge of the City – Safehouse Bunker
Hours later, Julian laid Eve on a makeshift bed. She stirred, wincing as her eyes fluttered open.
"You… made it?" she whispered.
"Not yet," he said quietly, sitting beside her. "But we will. Even if I have to kill my own blood."
She grasped his hand weakly. "You're stronger than him."
Julian didn't reply. His mind raced — with memories, with fear, and with something new:
A flicker of hope.

Nexus Black Site – Unknown Location
Lucian watched the footage from Lazarus's optic feed.
"You hesitated," he muttered coldly.
He turned to a new subject being wheeled into another chamber. A girl, eyes wild with terror. Another experiment. Another weapon.
Lucian leaned closer, whispering:
"Let's see if family bonds break just as easily as bones."
