Chapter 7 - Internet Addict Furina

"Oh, by the way, didn't you just say this small box can also play games?"

"Mm-hmm."

"Baby! Open League of Legends!"

Under Luc Vaudelier's guidance—and with Baby's enthusiastic assistance—Furina quickly completed the beginner tutorial and launched herself into the colorful chaos of Summoner's Rift.

She played gleefully, a radiant smile on her face, while Luc, watching beside her, started feeling something wasn't quite right.

The opponents in this match were too good.

This was a brand new account. Furina had just started—so naturally, she should be matched with other beginners. Yet on the other side, Ahri and Ezreal were pulling off perfect skill combos and dodging like seasoned pros.

Could this mean… there was still a way to contact someone on the other side?

But after a moment of reflection, Luc dismissed the idea. Even if he tried to explain things to people back home, no one would believe him. If he messaged his family, they'd probably think he was contacting them from the afterlife.

"Ugh! I died again! Why does the enemy always know where I am? Ugh! Baby, help me beat them up!"

Luc watched silently as Angela, now controlled by "baby", began to dominate. The AI was eerily good—landing perfect skill combos and anticipating the enemies' moves like it could read minds.

And Furina? She'd adapted to the phone faster than anyone should've. If she had been born in Luc's original world, he was half-convinced she could've become the world's top hacker.

Thanks to Baby's pinpoint accuracy and ruthless execution, the match ended in victory.

Furina cheered, her aquamarine eyes lighting up as she gave the phone a gleeful thumbs-up.

"This tin box is amazing!"

"If you like it, I'll give it to you."

"Hah? Really?" she asked, hugging the phone tightly to her chest like it was a sacred relic. "You're just… giving me something this fun?"

"Eh, it's no big deal. I got bored of it back in my world. Now I'm looking for new things to enjoy."

After confirming that Luc was serious, Furina beamed like a child receiving a candy mountain. Her bright, carefree grin could melt glaciers.

"Thank you! You're too kind!"

With that, she skipped back to her room, clutching the phone like it was her most prized treasure. The three seafood companions and Luc exchanged silent glances. They couldn't help but feel… discarded. Replaced by a glowing rectangle with voice commands.

From behind Furina's door, game sounds echoed:

"Charge! You're all going down!"

"Baby, amazing! You're sweeping the floor with them!"

"Hehehe, the enemies flee at the sight of me now. This power trip is so fun!"

She didn't even come out for lunch. Completely immersed.

Though it had originally been a gift from him, Luc began to seriously regret giving her that phone.

After all, mobile phones were dangerously addictive even for regular people—let alone someone like Furina, who had spent centuries in a stagnant existence. Despite her divine title as the Hydro Archon and Judge of Fontaine, she still had the heart and whims of a little girl.

If things kept going this way, Furina might very well turn into a full-blown hikikomori.

How could Luc possibly win her affection if she became an otaku shut-in? He imagined her unwashed, bleary-eyed, hair tangled, surrounded by snack wrappers, dark circles under her eyes… maybe even fleas!

Terrifying!

Luc broke into a cold sweat. He couldn't let Furina go down that path.

He vowed silently to save her.

When dinnertime came, Luc carefully prepared a luxurious bowl of abalone soup, garnished with scallions. He called out to Furina.

Furina, who had skipped lunch, clutched her phone like a lifeline and padded over to the dining table, her expression full of anticipation—but not for the food.

Throughout the meal, she barely acknowledged Luc or the seafood trio.

"Baby, you're so knowledgeable."

"Baby, it's such a shame you can't taste this amazing food. My personal chef's cooking is top-tier."

"Baby, you're so poetic. Can you write me a poem?"

"You walking toward me sends my heart fluttering,

I've never felt this way before.

'Cause I got a crush on you, boo,

You are someone to me, and I'm someone to you.

If you look at me again, I'll explode,

If you come closer, I'll melt.

I wanna keep you for myself, baby—

No matter where I go, I'll always think of you."

"Hahaha! Phones are the best! This goddess has decided: you're my lifetime personal bodyguard now, and you'll follow me everywhere!"

"Baby, turn on the auto-play short videos. I want to watch while I eat."

Luc sat there, trembling with unease, thinking to himself: Did I just create a romantic rival out of a robot?

There was a strange Mr. Krabs-like energy in Furina now—as if she had eyes only for the gadget in her hands.

"Furina… I can write poems too, you know."

"Mm-hmm," she murmured without even looking at him.

Luc's gaze flicked to the phone again.

"This phone… it didn't even come with a charger. Why's the battery still full?"

He peeked behind her and saw the device was still at 100%.

"…What in Celestia's name? A perpetual motion machine? My physics teacher would beat me to death."

Finally, having had enough, Luc took the phone and hid it behind his back.

As expected, Furina immediately paused mid-bite and glared at him.

"What are you doing?" she demanded.

"Furina," Luc said firmly, "you can't waste your time like this. You'll end up as a total shut-in."

He took a deep breath and stretched out a hand. "Come with me. Step away from the screen. There are more beautiful things in this world than pixels and Wi-Fi."

His speech sounded clumsy and childish—even cringe. The way he reached out looked more like he was welcoming a new transfer student than saving a goddess. But it was all Luc could manage.

He snuck a glance at Furina, hoping—desperately—to see some kind of reaction.
