Elena hadn't come to my office. Not once.

I checked my phone more times than I'd admit to anyone, half expecting a message, half dreading it. There was nothing. No Are you okay? No We need to talk. No accusations. No reassurances either.

The silence was louder than any argument.

When the workday finally ended, I didn't wait. I grabbed my jacket and left my office before I could second-guess myself. I needed air. Movement. Space to breathe.
