Elena's POV
The sound of the gunshot split the air like lightning tearing through midnight.
My body seized. My lungs stopped working. My scream tore itself out of me, raw and endless, but it didn't matter, my voice was swallowed by the ringing in my ears.
I squeezed my eyes shut, too terrified to face the truth, because if I opened them and saw Justin lifeless on the ground, I knew I would die with him. My heart couldn't take it. Seconds felt like centuries. I was expecting to hear Dante chuckle or come hitting me but all I could hear was silence,Not the silence of death, but something else. Something waiting.. I couldn't open my eyes, I tried to but I couldn't buy I knew I was going to open it sooner or later. My body trembled violently as I forced my lashes apart, the world coming into focus through a blur of tears.
And what I saw nearly broke me all over again.It wasn't Justin lying still.It was Dante.
