After what happened yesterday night, I had to sleep early cause my heart was aching from everything that happened

By 6:00am my internal alarm clock woke me up. I woke up to silence I was used to before.
Not the kind of silence that comes with peace, but the kind that presses against your chest until you can't breathe properly. Usually, the mornings had a rhythm. Even if Elena wasn't speaking directly to me, her presence had a way of filling the air, her humming in the kitchen when she thought no one was listening, the faint clatter of dishes, her footsteps moving around the apartment like she owned a piece of it.
But that morning, there was nothing.
At first, I didn't notice. I rolled over, rubbed a hand over my face, and lay there for a few minutes trying to summon the will to leave the comfort of my bed. My head felt heavy, my thoughts sluggish, but it was nothing unusual. I had gotten used to existing in that kind of fog.
