A second of pause...
And then, the entire city was covered by a thick layer of dense water that looked just like a serpent. It moved slightly along the walls, and the flood that Sagar created was swept away with the serpent.
"Master, your mana!" Raitha screamed, her tone clearly concerned as Shyam's mana bar had now drained from one hundred percent to just zero point three percent. One more forced spell and he might not survive anymore.
If someone drains all their mana, their body starts weakening, in which state their HP starts to decrease as well. The only way to stop that is to channel mana from external sources, such as a mana push or using any stone or item that automatically enters the body of such a person and restores their mana pool.
"It's alright, I don't think I'll need to use any more spells," Shyam replied.
His body felt heavy, as if lifting the weight of an elephant, yet his will to survive had not gone down just yet.
Even Sagar struggled to stand anymore. Using a spell like Viscera Torrentis was sure to drain all his mana as well, although not in percentage as normal human beings {fighters} of this world aren't able to scale their mana by numbers. They must rely on their senses and instinct to know when to stop using mana-draining moves.
"I'll try to weaken him more! You guys strike him, and make sure he doesn't stand anymore!" Ravina shouted as she put back her broken sword into her sheath and prepared to use just one last spell.
"But you'll hurt yourself badly, Miss Ravina!" Arohanik raised concern. Not just Shyam, but Ravina and all the people who fought with them were at the limit.
Their mana, physical strength—and human power {HP}.
"We all live because the higher-level adventurers are fighting bigger threats. All the adventurers of the kingdom Rājarka are one! And thus we must fight until our last breath. I want to be the kind of person whose life would save hundreds!" Ravina said as she closed her eyes, focusing on the target.
"Love Technique: I love you, but as a friend!"
In spite of killing Sagar, she bled from her mouth, so much that her mind almost blacked out. In mere moments her eyes darkened and she fell unconscious.
Her heartbeat slowed, her breath so faint it couldn't even be heard in this loud crowd of war cries!
But her sacrifice would be worth it!
(She didn't fucking die yet, author!)
Her words reached Sagar. Flowing through every vein of his body, he felt so much pressure that his blood vessels almost exploded. But because Ravina was still only a Tier Two Sub-Stage Four fighter, even her strongest spell didn't do enough damage to instantly kill Sagar. It sure did slow him down though.
"This is our chance!" Shyam shouted as he readied himself.
"Yes!" Arohanik agreed as he raised his hammer and started running towards Sagar.
"Let's do it!" Soktomanus yelled as he twisted his arm and sprinted towards Sagar bare-handed.
Behind them were all the adventurers who were still alive even after all those beasts attacked Vyomsetu.
Some ran away due to fear, some stayed but hidden, some fought.
"Is this what happens to those who stay 'true'?"
Sagar whispered as he closed his eyes, accepting what fate had chosen for him.
Slowly, he sensed each footstep closing in.
"I wonder if the wielder of the Ways of Hydra truly knows the truth," Sagar's grimoire spoke as it leaned against him, its blue cover flickering as it turned brown.
"Maybe," Sagar whispered and suddenly opened his eyes—not to attack, not to defend himself, but to throw a stone towards Shyam. His act was so precise that Shyam didn't even notice when and how the stone had been thrown at him.
It didn't damage him. It just... stayed, in his side right pocket, as Shyam thrust his sword directly at the heart. It was sharp, fast, and direct.
"Sorry, but it had to be done," Shyam whispered slowly as he closed his eyes in awe.
"You did nothing wrong, adventurer. It's me who was a villain, in someone's story," Sagar said before his head was crushed under the weight of Arohanik's hammer.
Everything was silent. For moments after Sagar's death, no one spoke a single word. They just stared at the body of Sagar that still sat kneeled down.
'Even though he planned to destroy the lives of many, killing him gives me this ache in my chest... that I have done something very wrong,' Shyam thought as he finally, softly took back the sword and put it in his sheath.
"Is it... over?" a random adventurer whispered as they tightly held onto their arm.
"...Yes," Tithira replied as he finally breathed out.
Killing such a person was not easy for anyone.
Someone who once was the adventurer of Vyomsetu and served the guild with tasks not even C-rankers would take.
"What should we do with his dead body now?"
Shyam asked. His entire body ached with pain, so much that he didn't even feel his own hand moving.
But even so, he couldn't just let it all go and lie down now, or it would just continue his fainting after every fight streak.
"Bad or not, he still once fought for us. You guys rest, we will bury his body as respectfully as possible for now," Arohanik said. He too wasn't in good shape, but since he joined the fight later than everyone else, he still had much stamina left.
Shyam thought for a moment, but the amount of pain flowing through his muscles quickly decided for him to choose rest over one last visit. At last, for him Sagar was just a side villain he had to defeat in order to advance further.
Every adventurer that fought the battle was sent to the shelter provided by the mayor.
The city was half destroyed during the battle, so the mayor quickly called for builders all across Vyomsetu and beyond to rebuild it—and this time, even better!
After a quick bath Shyam somehow made it to his room. It was over, finally.
"What should I do next..." he whispered as he lay down on the bed.
Staring at the ceiling, his heart still raced.
Though that thought quickly vanished as he fell asleep quickly.
A system window suddenly appeared.
[Level Maxed / The II - Raitha 2648 will start updating shortly. Thank you for your patience, the one in Niścaya]
With this message, his system went silent, all his passive skills turned off.
The mayor and the guild master of Vyomsetu buried the body of Sagar under a large cherry tree.
After which, the guild master came back to his office and started writing reports. Everything had happened so fast—from the beast rampage to Sagar's attack.
He couldn't even process it yet, but still... For Shyam, they won, and he felt far too grateful for that.
The city had been brought to peace once more.
That is what Tithira thought before closing his eyes.
