Chapter 5 - Lightning against the mountain

The wind howled louder than ever.

Dust spiraled across the battlefield as the Stone Warden finished its transformation. Pieces of its rocky body shifted and locked into new positions, making the creature even larger and more terrifying.

Its arms thickened with jagged stone plates. Sharp spikes grew along its shoulders and back. Dark energy pulsed through the cracks in its body like veins of black fire.

Kael stared upward.

"…Yeah, that definitely wasn't there before."

Beside him, Ryn's eyes stayed fixed on the creature.

"It's evolving."

"That's bad, right?"

"Yes."

The giant lifted one massive arm and slammed it into the ground.

BOOOOOM.

A shockwave blasted outward across the valley floor. Rocks jumped from the ground, and the wind scattered violently around them.

Kael stumbled backward.

"Okay!"

He regained his balance.

"Definitely bad!"

The Warden roared again and began marching toward the village.

Each step shook the valley.

Ryn clenched his fists.

"We can't let it get past us."

Kael nodded.

"Yeah."

His eyes sharpened.

"Let's bring the storm."

The wind responded immediately.

It wrapped around Kael like a living current, tugging at his bright blue-and-orange hair and snapping his red scarf violently through the air.

Electricity crackled around his arms again.

But this time…

The power felt different.

Stronger.

More focused.

Above them, thunder rumbled.

Ryn glanced at the sky.

"…You're pulling energy from the storm."

Kael grinned.

"Good."

The Stone Warden suddenly lunged forward, raising its giant arm to smash them into the ground.

Ryn moved first.

He slammed both hands onto the earth.

"Stone Fortress!"

The ground exploded upward.

Three massive stone pillars rose in front of them, slamming together to form a giant wall.

The Warden's fist crashed into it.

BOOOOOM.

The impact shattered the first pillar instantly.

Cracks spread through the second.

The third barely held.

Kael watched the wall crumble.

"…We need something bigger."

Ryn nodded.

"Yes."

The last pillar shattered.

Stone fragments rained everywhere.

Kael stepped forward.

Wind spiraled violently around him.

Lightning flashed above.

CRACK.

Kael raised his arm.

Energy surged into his palm like a rushing river.

For a brief moment, fear flickered across his face.

Then determination replaced it.

"Alright…"

He whispered.

"Let's see what this storm can really do."

The Warden lifted its arm again.

Kael shouted.

"Storm Drive!"

The wind exploded beneath his feet.

WHOOSH.

Kael launched forward like a bolt fired from the sky.

His body became a streak of blue lightning and spinning wind.

The Warden swung its massive arm.

But Kael moved faster.

He darted across the battlefield in a flash, weaving between flying debris and crashing stone.

"WOAH!"

Kael laughed mid-flight.

"This is insane!"

Ryn watched carefully.

"…Good speed."

The Warden roared and swung again.

Kael jumped into the air.

Wind carried him higher.

Lightning gathered around his arm like a coiling serpent.

He clenched his fist.

Energy surged violently.

"Alright monster!"

Kael shouted.

"Try catching THIS!"

He thrust his hand downward.

"Lightning Strike!"

CRAAAAACK.

A blinding bolt of electricity erupted from his hand.

The lightning slammed directly into the Warden's chest.

The explosion echoed across the valley like a thunderclap.

Stone shattered violently.

The creature staggered backward.

Chunks of rock fell from its body.

Kael landed beside Ryn, breathing hard.

"…Did that work?"

Ryn watched the dust cloud.

"Maybe."

The smoke cleared.

The Warden was still standing.

But its chest had been blasted open, exposing a glowing core buried inside the stone.

Dark energy leaked from the crack like smoke.

Kael pointed.

"HEY!"

"There," Ryn said.

"That must be the source."

High above the battlefield, the cloaked man's smile faded slightly.

"…Interesting."

He tightened his grip on the black crystal.

"Stronger than expected."

The Stone Warden roared again.

But this time…

The sound was weaker.

Ryn stepped forward.

"The core."

Kael nodded.

"Got it."

The monster raised both arms for another attack.

Ryn stomped the ground.

"Stone Bind!"

Massive stone chains burst from the earth and wrapped around the Warden's legs.

The creature struggled violently.

Cracks spread across the chains, but they held.

"Now!" Ryn shouted.

Kael took a deep breath.

The storm above responded instantly.

Lightning surged through the clouds.

Wind screamed across the valley.

Kael launched forward again.

Faster than before.

A streak of lightning racing across the battlefield.

The Warden tried to break free.

The chains shattered.

But it was too late.

Kael was already there.

He flew straight toward the exposed core.

Electricity exploded across his arm.

"THIS ENDS NOW!"

He punched forward.

"THUNDER BREAK!"

CRAAAAAAASH.

Lightning erupted like a miniature sun.

The entire valley lit up with blinding white light.

The shockwave blasted dust, rocks, and wind in every direction.

For a moment…

Everything went silent.

Then—

The Stone Warden froze.

Cracks spread rapidly across its entire body.

The dark energy leaking from it vanished.

And the giant creature slowly began to crumble.

Ryn exhaled.

"…It's over."

The Warden collapsed.

Massive chunks of stone crashed to the ground, shaking the valley one final time.

Kael stood in the center of the rubble.

Breathing heavily.

His arms still crackling with fading electricity.

He looked down at his hands.

"…I did it."

Ryn walked toward him.

"You did."

But high above the valley…

The cloaked man watched the fallen Warden.

His glowing eyes narrowed.

"…So the storm has truly awakened."

He turned away from the cliff edge.

"But this is only the beginning."

The black crystal pulsed once more before the man disappeared into the shadows.

Far below, Kael and Ryn had no idea what had just begun.

But their journey had already changed the fate of the world.

And somewhere beyond the horizon…

Other powers were starting to stir.
