Adam didn't move. He stood there in the soft glow of dusk, his shoulders tense, his eyes steady on her face. The roses in his hand trembled slightly from the way he gripped them, too tight, as if letting go meant losing her all over again.
The air between them was fragile.
It felt like one breath, one word, could break everything.
Sofia's heart hammered in her chest, so loud she was sure he could hear it. She wanted to speak, to tell him to stop looking at her that way, to tell him to go before she shattered, but the words wouldn't come.
She had imagined this moment so many times. What she would say if she ever saw him again. How she would stand tall, unbothered, composed. But now, standing in front of him, every piece of that resolve fell apart.
Adam's voice, low and raw, cut through the silence. "Please, Sof. Don't make me leave again."
Something inside her cracked.
