Chapter 58 - chapter 57 : Thunder-Crowned Ape

The ash-choked air of Sector 7 was a memory. Here, in the Deep Canyons of the North, the air was sharp, violently cold, and thick with the smell of ozone.

The Imperial dropship hovered a hundred feet above the jagged, razor-sharp spires of the canyon floor. The sky above was a churning maelstrom of bruised purple clouds, flashing with chaotic, branching arcs of blue and gold lightning. The atmospheric interference was so intense that the dropship's anti-gravity engines were whining in protest, struggling to maintain altitude.

"Drop!" Kai commanded, his metallic voice slicing through the deafening roar of the storm.

Squad 7 didn't hesitate. They stepped out of the open bay doors and plummeted into the abyss.

They didn't use parachutes. As they neared the canyon floor, Prince Zhao Long flared his Earthly Fiend magma-veins, generating a localized tectonic pulse that slowed their descent. They hit the stone floor with a synchronized, heavy CRACK, spider-webbing the bedrock beneath their combat boots.

Anvil, Kai's tiger-sized Qilin-hound, landed heavily beside him. The beast's absolute black-diamond scales completely absorbed the ambient lightning flashes, its jaws radiating a terrifying, molten heat from the Liquid Star-Iron it had consumed.

"Formation," Kai ordered, drawing the Sovereign's Edge.

The dark meteor steel of his O-Katana hummed, vibrating at a high frequency that repelled the freezing rain. His squad instantly shifted. Maya planted her massive, scorch-marked Deep-Earth Shale shield at the front. Robert slipped into the deep shadows behind her, his star-flecked Void-snake hissing at the static in the air. Princess Yan took the high ground on a nearby boulder, her hands filled with volatile, silver-colored alchemical vials. Zhao Long stood shoulder-to-shoulder with Kai, his Tier-2 Abyssal-Core gauntlets sparking with subterranean heat.

They didn't have to wait long.

A deafening roar echoed through the canyon, a sound that resonated not in their ears, but in the fillings of their teeth.

It didn't leap from a cave. It rode the lightning. A massive bolt of golden electricity struck the canyon floor fifty yards away, kicking up a cloud of pulverized rock. As the dust cleared, the Tier 6 (Mid) Thunder-Crowned Ape stood up to its full, terrifying height of fifteen feet.

Its fur was a dark, storm-grey, crackling with residual voltage. But its most defining feature was the jagged, crystalline horn protruding from its skull, glowing with condensed, chaotic electrical energy. It looked at the humans not with the cold, calculated logic of the Exarch-Kin, but with the raw, unadulterated malice of a natural disaster.

"It's fast," Robert warned, his Void-snake uncoiling. "The ambient static is boosting its nervous system."

"Ground it!" Kai roared.

Princess Yan didn't hesitate. She threw three of her silver vials high into the air. Drawing her sidearm, she shot them mid-flight. The vials shattered, raining a viscous, highly conductive alchemical fluid over the entire canyon floor, coating the rocks and the Ape.

The Ape shrieked in rage as the fluid forcibly grounded its ambient electrical field, sapping its speed.

It opened its massive, fanged maw. The crystalline horn on its head flared, channeling a massive surge of golden lightning down its throat.

"Robert!" Zhao Long yelled.

A localized, blinding beam of pure, destructive lightning erupted from the Ape's mouth, wide enough to vaporize the entire squad.

Robert stepped out from behind Maya's shield. His eyes turned completely black. He thrust his hands forward, channeling his Tier 1 (Peak) Void Qi. "Null Zone: Devour!"

A pitch-black sphere of absolute nothingness expanded in front of the squad. The golden lightning beam slammed into the Null Zone. For three agonizing seconds, Robert held the line, his muscles trembling as the Void actively swallowed the Tier 3 elemental attack. The sheer kinetic splash damage deflected off the edges of the Void, but Maya expertly angled her Deep-Earth Shale shield, sending the lethal arcs of rogue lightning harmlessly into the canyon walls.

"The beam is fading!" Robert choked out, blood leaking from his nose as the Null Zone began to crack. "It's too heavy!"

"Long! Now!" Kai shouted.

Zhao Long launched himself forward, stomping his heavy boots into the conductive fluid coating the floor. "Earthly Fiend: Tectonic Snare!"

A massive, invisible gravitational net erupted beneath the Ape. The sheer weight of the Prince's foundation locked the beast's legs to the bedrock.

The Ape, furious at being restrained, swung its massive, tree-trunk-sized arm in a devastating backhand aimed at the Prince. Zhao Long crossed his gauntlets to block, but the physical strength of a Tier 3 (Mid) anomaly was overwhelming. The impact launched the Imperial Heir backward, skipping him violently across the jagged rocks like a stone across a pond.

But Zhao Long had done his job. The Ape's posture was wide open.

Kai blurred into the opening. His [Agility: 70] propelled him forward, his pale, black-diamond-sheened skin completely ignoring the ambient sparks filling the air.

He didn't swing for the neck. He didn't aim for the heart.

He aimed directly for the crystalline horn on the Ape's skull.

The beast saw him coming. It couldn't bring its massive arms around in time to block the blade, so it did the only thing it could: it violently detonated the stored lightning within its horn in a localized, omnidirectional blast of chaotic voltage.

This was exactly what Kai wanted.

[Warning: Extreme Electrical Anomaly Detected.]

[Evasive action highly recommended.]

Kai didn't evade. He drove the Sovereign's Edge directly into the blast wave. The highly conductive dark meteor steel acted as a perfect lightning rod.

KRAK-OOOOOM!

A torrent of wild, chaotic Tier 6 lightning surged down the blade, bypassing Kai's external Black-Diamond Carapace and flooding directly into his meridians.

The pain was absolute. It felt as though a thousand jagged knives of pure heat were slicing through his internal pathways. The golden lightning slammed into his dantian, violently colliding with his perfectly balanced Rank 3 Five-Elements Foundation.

Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water—the flawless, unbreakable arch that had prevented his compression—suddenly spasmed. The chaotic, unbalanced intrusion of the lightning threw the Primordial Cycle into total disarray.

The flawless arch collapsed.

"System," Kai roared in the silent theater of his mind, his eyes blazing with blinding golden light. "Compress the Core!"

Kai's Celestial Marrow Ignition flared to life. The hyper-dense liquid Qi produced by his bones flooded his dantian. With the elemental resistance of his foundation temporarily shattered by the lightning, Kai used his sheer, transmigrator willpower to act as a cosmic vise.

He seized his five-sided, solid diamond Tier 2 core and violently crushed it inward.

The physical toll was immense. Blood sprayed from his lips, instantly vaporizing in the electrical heat. But he didn't stop. He pushed past the pain of a mortal teenager and applied the cold, unyielding discipline of a survivor.

Crunch.

The jagged edges of the five-sided diamond snapped off. The core violently condensed, spinning rapidly as it was forged by the chaotic lightning and the Celestial marrow.

In a fraction of a second, the core stabilized. It was no longer a multifaceted diamond. It was a flawless, impossibly dense, perfectly spherical orb radiating a terrifying, profound light.

[System Alert: Major Cultivation Breakthrough!]

[Host has shattered the Tier 2 Boundary.]

[Host has achieved: Martial Artist Tier 3 (Low).]

[All Base Attributes massively increased. Core Capacity expanded by 1000%.]

[Five-Elements Foundation successfully re-stabilized around Spherical Core.]

A shockwave of pure, unadulterated Tier 3 physical and spiritual pressure exploded from Kai's chest. The concussive blast blew the golden lightning away, completely clearing the storm clouds in a hundred-yard radius above the canyon.

Kai landed on his feet. The chaotic lightning still arced across his skin, but it no longer burned him; it was being actively devoured and dispersed by his newly forged, perfectly spherical core.

The Thunder-Crowned Ape stared at the tiny human. For the first time, the anomaly felt a spike of genuine, biological terror. The human's mass hadn't changed, but the density of his soul felt like a collapsing star.

Kai raised the Sovereign's Edge. He didn't need to use the Primordial Cycle to boost his strength anymore. His baseline power had just ascended to a new realm.

"Thank you for the spark," Kai said, his voice echoing with the heavy, resonant weight of a true Martial Expert.

The Ape lunged, swinging both massive fists in a desperate, final crush.

Kai simply vanished.

His new [Agility] stat completely bypassed the beast's kinetic vision. Kai reappeared directly behind the Ape, hovering in the air for a fraction of a second. He executed a flawless, perfectly horizontal draw-cut.

The high-frequency blade met no resistance. Boosted by his Tier 3 Spherical Core, the Sovereign's Edge cleanly sheared through the Ape's thick, lightning-hardened neck muscles and shattered its spine.

The massive head of the Thunder-Crowned Ape slid off its shoulders, tumbling to the canyon floor with a heavy, wet thud. The towering body stood frozen for a second before collapsing into the conductive fluid.

Kai landed softly on the bedrock, flicking his blade to the side to clear the blood. He exhaled, feeling the incredibly smooth, frictionless flow of his new Tier 3 Qi circulating through his expanded meridians. It was a profound, intoxicating sensation of absolute control.

But before he could check on his squad, the blue screens of the Transmigrator System violently cascaded across his vision, accompanied by a triumphant, high-pitched chime he hadn't heard since his awakening.

[Target Eliminated: Tier 3 (Mid) Thunder-Crowned Ape.]

[Massive EXP gained.]

[Level Up!]

[Level Up!]

[Host has reached Level 20.]

Kai paused. Reaching Level 10 had unlocked his inventory. He had been wondering what Level 20 held.

[Major Milestone Reached.]

[System Authority Expanded. Accessing latent data sectors...]

[Initializing System Shop.]

[System Shop: UNLOCKED.]

A completely new interface expanded in Kai's mind. It wasn't just a list of stats anymore. It was a sprawling, multi-tiered digital storefront, categorized by tabs that made his heart skip a beat: [Bloodlines], [Weapons], [Blueprints], and [Anomalies].

"Hart!" Prince Zhao Long yelled, limping over to the corpse while clutching his ribs. "You actually did it. You absolute lunatic, you actually shattered your foundation to force the compression!"

"I did," Kai murmured, though his eyes were completely unfocused, staring at the invisible screens floating in the air.

He mentally opened the [Blueprints] tab in the newly unlocked System Shop. The items didn't cost gold or Imperial Credits; they cost "Anomaly Points"—a currency he had apparently been accumulating every time he killed an Exarch or a mutated beast. He currently had 12,500 points.

He scrolled past standard Tier-3 weapon schematics and minor array formations, his eyes landing on a single, glowing golden item at the very bottom of the list.

[Item: Blueprint - The Star-Forge Dilation Chamber]

[Description: A localized spatial array schematic. Alters the flow of time within a confined space. (Ratio: 10 Days Internal / 1 Day External).]

[Cost: 12,000 Anomaly Points.]

Kai's breath caught in his throat.

Dean Azure had told him he had 540 days before the Exarch Harvest Fleet arrived. It was an impossibly short deadline to reach the realm of Martial Master. But if he bought this blueprint... if he could build a Time-Dilation Chamber inside the Vanguard quarters...

He wouldn't have 540 days. He would have over a decade.

Kai closed the interface, a terrifying, predatory smile spreading across his face. He looked down at the dead Tier 3 anomaly, then over at his battered, exhausted squad.

"Harvest the beast core," Kai commanded, his voice filled with a new, dark exhilaration. "We're going back to the Academy. We have a lot of work to do."
